Two singles from the over.
Ben Stokes has come up to Jimmy Anderson for a chat.
There's a little smirk on Anderson's face. I doubt he's enjoying this short pitch stuff.
Play resumed at 14:45 BST before rain returned at 17:00 and no further play possible
Brook drops Marsh on 31 - tough chance at short leg
Labuschagne caught behind off Root for fine 111 - given on review

James Anderson has been given an official warning for encroaching into the danger zone during his follow through.
He's allowed two and then the third means he comes out of the attack.

James Anderson is bowling bouncers round the wicket.
What is going on?
Thanks Timothy.
It has all felt rather flat, hasn't it?
A wicket could change it all though. Where are England going to find it?
England will have been desperate to get out there following the delayed start with the weather, but it's not quite been as straightforward as they hoped. Perhaps a change of live text commentator can bring a wicket.
Emerging from his own chrysalis and fully buying into the Butterfly Effect is Callum Matthews, who will take you through the next hour or so.
It's quite cool at Old Trafford which explains the lack of movement through the air, despite the overhead cloud cover.
Marnus Labuschagne pushes the second ball of Stuart Broad's over through point for four. The outfield might be damp but it is still quick enough for that to go all the way.
England look a little devoid of ideas here. You can sense the growing impatience.

Old Trafford is quiet now.

It's a day for Ben Stokes to step up and achieve his own 200 wickets milestone. When the situation necessitates something extraordinary..... Ben is your man.

James Anderson has a brief conflab with Ben Stokes as the pair attempt to piece together the jigsaw puzzle that is the wicket of an Australia batter.
Harry Brook is moved to a very short mid-on position for Mitch Marsh, but he looks ice cool at the crease and is happy to see out a maiden over.
Jonny Bairstow continues to be the heartbeat of the team with plenty of encouraging words for the bowlers despite a rather flat period for England.

England just have to keep chipping away. You've seen it throughout the series that when a wicket falls, another one isn't too far away.
Marnus Labuschagne gets a short ball from Stuart Broad and this time elects to play a controlled hook down to deep square to pick up a couple of runs.
Labuschagne has moved on to 64.

There have been no real alarms for Australia.

Perhaps an aggressive spell from the captain himself is in order to break this partnership?!

If (and it's a big if) England can bowl another 28 overs today, the second new ball will be available. At the current rate of scoring the Aussies will still be a decent chunk of runs behind.
James Anderson is a fraction too full and Ben Stokes limps as he chases a cover drive for three off the bat of Marnus Labuschagne.
Australia are 125 runs behind after reach 150.

All England need is a couple of hours. If they blast these recognised batters out, and even if they can just get one, then the others might fall over.
A wobble seam to finish from Stuart Broad which Jonny Bairstow does well take. Not so much as a quarter chance for England thus far.
Regardless, a padded up Cameron Green is pictured gnawing his fingernails on the Australian balcony.

Time for one of those legendary Broad spells.

Marsh has so much power around him. You can see the muscle coming out of his shirt, he's a strong man.
Barely a flicker of emotion on the face of Mitch Marsh as he confidently - almost robotically - cover drives Stuart Broad for four.
