Root and Bairstow are practically walking their singles now.

Australia look completely deflated. Anyone else getting more and more annoyed at last week's rain, the longer that this dominance goes on?!

    @Jasper 16.58. That’s Manchester. It’ll still be raining!

The only time Australia look like getting a wicket is when Pat Cummins bowls.

I've been off for the past 10 days (getting married, in case no one knew).

I was hoping for a nice calm day to ease my way back in to things.

No chance of that. Instead, we've got England with a second-innings lead of more than 300 after just three days.

Skittle them tomorrow, then use the spare day to go back to Old Trafford Day 5...

England have just been clinical. The shot selection has been top quality.

    One from the over? Really?

But it has been brilliant from this pair. We've had fireworks, but we've had caution when needed, too.

Briggsy: No silly declarations please Ben. Let's bat them out the game, still two days to go.

Why is Joe Root so often getting hit where it hurts the most? (For a bloke, anyway.)

He winces in pain as Josh Hazlewood gets the ball to nip back in sharply.

Jim Maxwell says on TMS that it's an experience "more painful than forgetting your wife's birthday".

    Thoughts?

England are dominating this contest and it is just a question now of how far ahead they can get.

If there's one thing we've learned from this series, is that you can never predict what Ben Stokes is going to do.

Will they want to bowl at Australia tonight?! Nothing is ever out of the question.

England reached 300 in 57.5 overs. The second-fastest in Ashes history behind the 51.5 overs it took them to reach 300 at Old Trafford.

Seven of the top eight fastest 300s have been since Stokes and McCullum took over. Three of the top four have been this series.

It's not slowing down, is it?

England are - dare I say it - cruising, and Australia's seamers look tired.

    Time to cash in.

Well, I've clearly made an error in judgement there in admitting my ignorance. I can only apologise.

To add a bit more positivity, Jonny Bairstow absolutely nails Todd Murphy (or Rick Moranis, I'm a big fan) through the covers for consecutive boundaries! It brings up England's 300 in thrilling style.

The Oval crowd is waking up.

    Here we go.

Had to google Rick Moranis? Shameful. Never admit that in public...oh whoops!

Richard, Penrith (the one in Cumbria)

Rick Moranis? For the Wodehouse fans, Murphy is more Gussie Fink-Nottle. Worth a Google, too.

    Anon

Todd Murphy. Perhaps full Moranis is too much. Maybe the lovechild of Rick Moranis and Andy Caddick?
