Jonny Bairstow is ticking.
He helps himself to four more between slip and gully, but it's perfectly placed with immense precision and timing.
This could be a fun hour or two.

Bairstow is looking very dangerous here.

Four through the covers and that's a fine half-century for Jonny Bairstow!
He's found himself some great form over the past couple of Tests. He came to the crease after England were a little edgy after losing two wickets, but has reached the landmark from just 60 balls.
A brief interruption as a man runs onto the pitch topless, manages to get from one end to the other and is eventually caught and escorted out of the ground.
I'm sure it was worth it.

I know it has been a long tour, but Australia have to try and find some energy as they are so close to doing something special.
If they allow England to win the next two hours of cricket they will be well on their way to winning this Test match and drawing the series.

My colleagues are very disappointed in me for admitting that I just had to Google Rick Moranis.
Oops.

Five of England's top six have made 40 or more for the second match in a row.
Before then it had not happened in a home Ashes Test since 1926.
Anyone else just have to google Rick Moranis?
Not a bad shout, in fairness.

England are milking the off-spinner. Maybe it is worth a bit of Mitchell Marsh?

England's patience pays off as Murphy finally errs in his consistency.
He drops short and Bairstow gratefully carves it to the point boundary.

JP: Apparently there hasn't been a run-out during this Ashes. What about when Carey ran out Bairstow when he was out of his crease?
That went down as a stumping, JP.

It feels like Australia are just waiting for England to make a mistake.
A cautious start after tea from Root and Bairstow but they seem perfectly content with just nudging the singles for now.
It's an approach we've not seen very often, but every now and then it's quite a welcome one.

The lead is nowhere near enough yet, but another 100 or so would make things interesting.

Another quiet over, as Todd Murphy whirls away effectively.
The partnership between Root and Bairstow has now reached 50 - the fourth fifty-plus stand of the day.

England scored 135 in the second session, so that should be seen as the going rate. That would mean a score of about 400 by the close.
Tick, tick, tick.
Just the three singles from Starc's latest over as Root and Bairstow gently ease their way back into their innings.
'Gently' is not an adjective we've used much today.
My colleague Matt Henry - who is yet to eat his Baggy Green - has been busy looking at what a series it has been for England's openers.
After 11 years of trying to find a solid partnership, has the search finally come to an end?
Have 'Duck-ley' answered all of England's questions?
A couple of singles conclude the over as we continue our celeb spotting at the cricket - Mick Jagger is in attendance.
