  1. wicket

WICKET Reece c Alsop b Hunt 86published at 11:26 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

    Derbys 152-3 v Sussex 100

No century for Luis Reece at Derby as he comes down the track to left-arm seamer Sean Hunt but can only nudge a catch to a sprawling Tom Alsop at first slip. Reece faced 108 balls and hit 14 fours.

  2. wicket

SURREY ALL OUTpublished at 11:24 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

    Surrey 185 (Foakes lbw b Taylor 42) v Northants 357

    Northants have wrapped it up!

Tom Taylor with the final wicket - a big inswinger that traps Ben Foakes looking to play to leg.

Pretty much the perfect morning for Northants, taking 4-27, and they will surely enforce the follow-on now with a lead of 172.

No batting points for Surrey, a boost for Essex.

  3. Postpublished at 11:21 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

    Middlesex 121 & 125-3 v Warwickshire 315

Sam Robson has produced a classic on-drive towards the Pavilion off a full and straight delivery from Oliver Hannon-Dalby to find the rope.

Shot of the morning. Middlesex are within 69 of Warwickshire's total. So long as Robson is there they will feel confident of getting well past it.

    Should he go, however...

At the other end Ryan Higgins is off the mark after 12 balls. Welcome back Ryan Diggins.

This is not going to plan for Essex - yet.

Kyle Abbott and Mohammad Abbas are an experienced and talented new-ball pair and are permitting no liberties to be taken.

Alastair Cook has five from 14 balls faced, and Tom Westley is two not out.

  5. wicket

WICKET: Bailey c Clarke b Paterson 27published at 11:15 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

    Lancs 234-7 v Notts

Tom Bailey throws his hands at a full ball outside off and nicks low to slip, good catch by Joe Clarke by his left boot.

One more point is perhaps all Notts can hope for.

It would be difficult to see them scoring 250 in maybe 70 overs given the conditions and further delays possible.

  6. wicket

WICKET: Leaning lbw b Gregory 3published at 11:15 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

    Somerset 404-4 dec v Kent 31-4

Lewis Gregory is on fire. He pins Jack Leaning infront and the vociferous appeal helps persuade the finger to go up. He has 3-21 but it could easily be more.

Any hopes of batting bonus points have disappeared for Kent, their fans will have their primal senses tingling.

Harry Finch joins Joe Denly. Kent are desperate for a partnership.

  7. Division Two updatepublished at 11:13 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

Another one gone at Grace Road with Yorkshire skipper Shan Masood caught off Tom Scriven for 10 - they are 131-3, a lead of 53 over Leicestershire.

Alex Lees hits two fours in the latest Logan van Beek over and Durham are 54-1 after 14 against Worcestershire, replying to the home side's 313 all out.

Sussex have picked up a wicket at Derby, with Brooke Guest bowled for 20 by Sean Hunt. Luis Reece is still there on 81 and Derbyshire are 136-2 - but Wayne Madsen will play no further part in the game because of a finger injury..

  8. wicket

WICKET: Rossington c Brown b Mohammad Abbas 0published at 11:09 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

Essex 4-1 lead Hants by 117

Essex need some quick runs to get Hampshire in again.

Adam Rossington promoted to open the innings but his pinch-hitting role last only three balls as he walks at Mohammad Abbas, feels for one outside off and nicks behind.

  9. wicket

    WICKET: Bell-Drummond c Goldsworthy b Gregory 12published at 11:09 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

    Somerset 404-4 dec v Kent 30-3

    Bad balls get good wickets.

Lewis Gregory has been imperious this morning but this rank full toss is bound for leg stump but Daniel Bell-Drummond can only clip it straight to Lewis Goldsworthy at midwicket.

Kent in dissaray amid this suffocating start from the hosts. Joe Denly is the latest to venture out into the cauldron.

  10. wicket

WICKET: Cracknell c Burgess b Miles 16published at 11:07 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

    Middlesex 121 & 120-3 v Warwickshire 315

Joe Cracknell has been getting chin music since he came out and has tried to take on Craig Miles, only to send the ball into the sky off a leading edge allowing Michael Burgess to run to his left to take a routine catch.

The deficit remains 74. That was avoidable.

Ryan Higgins is in at five. They need a partnership.

  11. wicket

WICKET: Lawes c Nair b Sanderson 7published at 11:06 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

    Surrey 174-9 v Northants 357

Tom Lawes plays across an inswinger from Ben Sanderson and nicks to first slip.

Surrey still need 34 or they will be asked to bat again.

Ben Foakes still there on 37 but has only managed to add four runs in 35 minutes.

  12. Underway at Old Traffordpublished at 11:04 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

    Lancs 225-6 v Notts

It's been a very wet week in Manchester.

Two days chalked off, delays yesterday and another half-hour delay to the final day. Heavy showers also possible.

    But they're underway.

Notts will be very happy to take the draw points and should be mathematically safe by close of play, unless something truly extraordinary happens at Taunton.

  13. Cook avoids Chelmsford pairpublished at 11:01 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

    Essex 447-9 dec & 3-0 v Hants 334

Alastair Cook tries to leg glance but it comes off the pad and that is two leg byes.

He is, though, off the mark next ball with a single to backward square.

  14. Postpublished at 10:58 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

    Essex 447-9 dec & 0-0 v Hants 334

An interesting move by Essex as they send out Adam Rossington - who made 104 in the first innings - as Alastair Cook's opening partner.

What sort of lead are they looking for before declaring? It's currently 113.

Cook is on a pair after his day-one duck and is beaten by Kyle Abbott's opening delivery. Nervy moments for him.

  15. Division Two updatepublished at 10:57 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

Yorkshire have lost a wicket at Grace Road, with nightwatchman Ben Coad bowled by Chris Wright for three.

Adam Lyth is 55 not out and they are 129-2 against Leicestershire, a lead of 51.

Luis Reece has advanced to 71 not out for Derbyshire at the Incora County Ground and they are 122-1 against Sussex, 22 in front.

  16. wicket

WICKET: Muyeye c Umeed b Brooks 8published at 10:54 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

    Somerset 404-4 dec v Kent 16-2

Suffocating stuff so far from Somerset's opening bowlers. Kent have mustered only four scoring shots in the opening six overs and now they are two down.

A couple of big (and hopeful) appeals for LBW have been dismissed and there are five slips in place, just waiting for one to find the edge, and Jack Brooks has done just that, tempting Tawanda Muyeye into a push which sends an edge to Andy Umeed diving forward at second slip. Brooks has a wicket on his final appearance for Somerset at Taunton.

If Kent are to escape with a share of the spoils today, they are going to have to do it the hard way. The ball is swinging all over the place.

    They trail by 388.

Jack Leaning is the new batter.

Essex really need to get a move on when they start their second innings - but Sir Alastair Cook and Nick Browne aren't the most 'Bazball' opening pair on the county circuit.

There is much speculation that this could be Cook's final innings at Chelmsford.

On the subject of his possible retirement, this is what the club had to say yesterday: "Essex Cricket would like to clarify that, contrary to news articles published today, Alastair Cook will be discussing his playing future with the club at the end of the current season.

"Cook, and the first team squad, are fully focused on the last two LV= Insurance County Championship matches and on being involved in a close-fought race for further honours."

WICKET: Worrall c McManus b White 0published at 10:50 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

    Surrey 165-8 v Northants 357

Jack White strikes in his next over!

A bit of bounce to Dan Worrall and he gets glove or shoulder of the bat through to Lewis McManus.

Worrall goes for a fourth-ball duck and Northants have a real sniff of the follow-on.

  19. wicket

WICKET Prest st Rossington b Harmer 108published at 10:49 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

    Essex 447-9 dec v Hants 334

How often do you see this field?

Simon Harmer has almost everybody on the boundary as he starts a new over to Tom Prest.

It pays off as the Hampshire batter gives him the charge, misses, and Adam Rossington does the rest.

Harmer finishes with 6-149 and Essex will start their second innings 113 runs ahead.

  20. wicket

WICKET: Davies c Briggs b Miles 10published at 10:46 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

    Middlesex 121 & 102-2 v Warwickshire 315

Jack Davies goes for an expansive shot but can only pull the ball straight down the throat of Danny Briggs at square leg who takes a catch tumbling to his left.

Middlesex have lost a wicket within 15 minutes. They remain 92 adrift with eight wickets in hand.

Joe Cracknell joins Sam Robson in the middle.
