  1. Division Two updatepublished at 14:58 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

Sussex have lost their third wicket at Derby with James Coles lbw to Pat Brown for 11. The visitors are 74-3, still 55 behind.

Durham add three singles from Brett D'Oliveira's latest over at New Road and are 288-3 against Worcestershire, just 25 behind.

The umpires will shortly begin an inspection at Grace Road, where Yorkshire were 225-4 - 147 ahead - when rain stopped play.

  2. 100 runs

for Sam Robsonpublished at 14:58 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

    Middlesex 121 & 228-7 v Warwickshire 315

His second of the season and just Middlesex's second of the season.

What a knock from Sam Robson under immense pressure. He brings it up with a single off Chris Rushworth.

251 deliveries, 14 of them cracked to the rope.

How important it is will become clear in the next 38 overs.

  3. Postpublished at 14:56 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

    Somerset 404-4 dec v Kent 205-9

You don't need a hamstring to punch the ball off the back foot for four through extra cover.

Luckily for Michael Hogan, who does just that off Tom Abell.

12 more of those and Kent will have a batting point. 13 and they'll avoid the follow-on.

  4. Postpublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

Having ridden his luck earlier in the over, James Vince finds the boundary at the end of Simon Harmer's over, giving himself room and forcing the ball away through point. He is 21 not out.

  5. Postpublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

    Middlesex 121 & 235-7 v Warwickshire 315

Tom Helm gets another life. Oliver Hannon-Dalby beats the bat and smashes the pads but the umpire is resolute. Does he think that hit an inside edge? It doesn't look like it did.

OHD is perplexed. Kent fans might just be too.

    The lead is 41.

Durham skipper Scott Borthwick has scored his second century of the season - and both have come against Worcestershire.

Earlier this season he made 108 not out in victory at Chester-le-Street and today he's reached his second in 143 balls with 19 fours. It wasn't easy for him earlier. He took 15 balls to get off the mark but he has been tenacious.

It's his 22nd first-class century and his 12th for the county.

Durham are rattling along. Ollie Robinson has hit a series of lovely drives to the boundary and has put on 99 runs with Borthwick in 79 balls.

Robinson has gone to fifty in 42 balls, including nine fours and a six. He was kind-of dropped on four though, slamming a ball back to bowler Ben Allison which hit his right hand but didn't stick.

They have also seen their side to their first batting point in this weather-affected game. They now have 47 for the season. The record was 49, in the 16-match Championship winning season of 2009.

  7. dropped catch

Let-off for Vincepublished at 14:52 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

    Hants 52-4 - target 267

How important is that going to be?

James Vince tries a slog sweep off Simon Harmer and Matt Critchley is unable to hang onto the catch in the deep.

  8. wicket

WICKET: Evison c Banton b Wagner 23published at 14:50 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

    Somerset 404-4 dec v Kent 200-9

Pulled straight into the hands of Tom Banton at midwicket. Neil Wagner has a wicket and it's the very useful one of Joey Evison.

Michael Hogan is going to have a go at batting, with a runner. He limped out of the game with a hamstring injury on day one, remember.

Will Somerset enforce the follow-on? Do they think Kent could chase 200-odd for the win in 40+ overs?

  9. Postpublished at 14:49 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

    Hants 51-4 - target 267

Jamie Porter replaces Sam Cook following an earlier two-over burst with the new ball.

He's right on the money and that's a maiden to Liam Dawson.

    Somerset 404-4 dec v Kent 200-8

Two in the over for Tom Abell. Double wicket maiden. Jas Singh sees his off bail dislodged after a four-ball stay.

Somerset smell blood in the water.

Arafat Bhuiyan is the new man.

  11. 6 runs

    Hants 51-4 - target 267

Hampshire now have two of their most experienced players together in skipper James Vince and Liam Dawson.

In Vince's case, he is also their best batter and he lifts the second ball of a new Simon Harmer over for six.

The South African won't mind batters taking some risks but Vince sweeps the final ball of the over for four.

  12. wicket

WICKET: Denly lbw b Abell 73published at 14:42 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

    Somerset 404-4 dec v Kent 200-7

Middlesex fans rejoice. Joe Denly goes, pinned infront by the medium pace of Tom Abell after a season's best knock in incredibly difficult circumstances.

Kent are 50 runs shy of a batting bonus point and 54 short of the follow-on target.

Joey Evison has 23 and is joined by Jas Singh.

This relegation scrap is bubbling up nicely.

WICKET: Yadav c Burgess b Rushworth 1published at 14:39 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

    Middlesex 121 & 234-7 v Warwickshire 315

Jayant Yadav goes after just eight balls, wafting at the new ball which is moving all over from Chris Rushworth and sending an edge through to the keeper.

The lead is 40. 42 and a bit overs remain. There is a heavy shower heading for London on the radar.

Tom Helm is the new man. Sam Robson is on 98.

Could it be any more tense?

Tom Prest is dropped at long-on by Paul Walter, but it's only a brief reprieve as a bit of extra loop by Simon Harmer is his undoing, with Nick Browne taking the short-leg catch.

The South African has Prest for the second time today - this time with 103 fewer runs to his name.

  15. LANCASHIRE DRAW WITH NOTTINGHAMSHIREpublished at 14:29 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

    Lancs 272-7 v Notts

A miserable week at Old Trafford ends as it began - very wet.

The umpires have had a look and decided with the heavy rain that's fallen from just after midday and the forecast for the afternoon, no more play is possible.

The first two days were entirely washed out. 69 overs were at least possible on day three but they only managed just over an hour's cricket this morning.

Matthew Hurst's debut unbeaten 54 for Lancs is the only notable moment of the week. Perhaps the start of a bright career for the 19-year-old from Wigan.

A draw - coupled with Kent's position at Taunton - means Notts are safe. Lancashire's status was already secured.

  16. Ball changepublished at 14:27 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

    Surrey 52-0 f/o trail Northants by 120

There was enough happening with the first ball but Northants couldn't quite find an edge.

Now they've got the ball changed and will hope for a change of luck.

Straight away Jack White finds a bit of nip but too high for his lbw shout against Dom Sibley.

  17. wicket

    WICKET: De Caires c Rhodes b Hannon-Dalby 0published at 14:27 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

    Middlesex 121 & 229-6 v Warwickshire 315

Oliver Hannon-Dalby strikes in the first over with the new ball. He tempts Josh De Caires into an edge to Will Rhodes at second slip who takes a routine catch.

    The lead is 35.

Sam Robson is still there on 95 and is joined by Jayant Yadav to try and save the game... and maybe the season.

    Hants 26-3 - target 267

    Simon HarmerImage source, Rex Features

Two in four balls for Simon Harmer.

Nick Gubbins shapes to play to leg and the ball loops off a leading edge to Tom Westley at cover.

First-innings centurion Tom Prest comes out to the middle.

  19. wicket

WICKET Middleton c Porter b Harmer 9published at 14:24 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

    Hants 25-2 - target 267

Another plot twist in the drama at Chelmsford.

Fletcha Middleton tries to sweep but a bit of extra bounce is his undoing as he top edges to Jamie Porter at square leg.

Seven wickets in the game now for Simon Harmer - and there are still enough left for him to equal his 15 against Hampshire on the same ground last year.

  20. Division Two updatepublished at 14:22 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

Durham are now 210-3 after 49 overs against Worcestershire at New Road, with Scott Borthwick 72 not out and Ollie Robinson on 16.

The Pears will be very happy with the situation at Grace Road, where promotion rivals Leicestershire are off the field because of rain. Yorkshire are 225-4, 147 runs ahead. There will be an inspection at 3.00pm.

The rain hold-up at Derby was brief and Sussex are 45-2, 84 behind, with Tom Alsop bowled by Alex Thomson for 14.
