  1. wicket

WICKET Fuller b Steel 0published at 14:42 British Summer Time 28 September 2023

    Hants 219 & 147-8 v Surrey 209

James Fuller now falls for a golden duck!

    And what a shocker.

He goes back to cut a slow half-tracker from Cameron Steel, lazily flicks his hands at it and gets a thick bottom edge into his stumps.

  2. new ball

New ballpublished at 14:39 British Summer Time 28 September 2023

    Nottinghamshire 280-6 v Middlesex 366

One over later than it could have been, but now Middlesex captain Toby Roland-Jones calls for the second new ball.

  3. wicket

WICKET Holland c Worrall b Jacks 0published at 14:37 British Summer Time 28 September 2023

    Hants 219 & 146-7 v Surrey 209

Three balls later and Will Jacks has another!

Ian Holland gone for a third-ball duck as he reverse-sweeps off a loopy top edge to point.

Four now for Jacks and Surrey are getting through the order now.

  4. wicket

WICKET Brown lbw b Jacks 6published at 14:34 British Summer Time 28 September 2023

    Hants 219 & 146-6 v Surrey 209

Ben Brown rescued Hampshire in the first innings with 78 but he's gone cheaply second time around.

He's caught in the crease by Will Jacks who spins one into his pads and the decision looks straightforward.

Hampshire could do with a few from the lower order now or there won't be too many to defend - albeit there is turn available.

  5. Postpublished at 14:34 British Summer Time 28 September 2023

    Kent 494 v Lancashire 327 & 19-0

21 balls faced by Keaton Jennings and only two scoring shots.

The second of which is a strong cut to the fence off Matt Quinn as he and Luke Wells look to establish a partnership.

  6. wicket

WICKET James b Yadav 19published at 14:30 British Summer Time 28 September 2023

    Nottinghamshire 274-5 v Middlesex 366

Cracking shot from Lyndon James as he advances to Jayant Yadav and gets four to long-on.

    But he's gone next ball!

Shorter and wider and James goes to cut, but insides edges onto the stumps.

Now can Middlesex whip through the tail?

  7. wicket

WICKET Rossington b Taylor 4published at 14:26 British Summer Time 28 September 2023

    Essex 50-6 f/o trail Northants by 108

Essex had gained some respite from Paul Walter's counterattack - five boundaries in a run-a-ball 33 so far - and the end of a wonderful spell from Ben Sanderson - seven overs, 3-14.

But they've lost Adam Rossington at the other end.

One skids through a little low from Tom Taylor, Rossington is caught in the crease and his off stump is blown out of the ground.

Durham celebrate taking a wicketImage source, Rex Features

Warwickshire have built a handy first-innings lead over Somerset at Edgbaston. Ed Barnard has just fallen for 73 to leave them 273-9 and 58 in front of Somerset.

In Division Two Durham seamer Ben Raine has just picked up his fifth wicket against former side Leicestershire. The Foxes are 106-7 and facing the follow-on.

Sussex's teenage batter James Coles has gone to his third first-class century in their second-innings at Hove. The 19-year-old is unbeaten on 123 with his side on 432-5 against Gloucestershire. They lead by 439.

Derbyshire spinner Alex Thomson has just got Glamorgan batter Colin Ingram for 82 - Glamorgan are now 191-3 replying to their opponents' 450-8 declared.

Worcestershire are well on top against Yorkshire at Headingley. The hosts are 148-5 in their first innings and still trailing by 241.

WICKET Vince c Overton b Steel 56published at 14:19 British Summer Time 28 September 2023

    Hants 219 & 135-5 v Surrey 209

And it will be just the one hundred for James Vince this season.

Nicely bowled by Cameron Steel. Lands a good length with a bit of drift and then turn to take a thick edge to slip with Vince pressing forward.

  10. 'Just what Kent wanted'published at 14:17 British Summer Time 28 September 2023

    Kent 494 v Lancashire 327 & 15-0

    Alex Hoad
    BBC Sport at Canterbury

Kent would have certainly taken that.

A first innings lead of 167 with five sessions remaining in the game. They have given themselves an opportunity to make the outcome of the match at Trent Bridge irrelevant.

The heavy roller is coming on and the pitch still looks like a trustworthy one for the batters, but Jack Morley and Tom Hartley have shown that spinners can take wickets if they bowl good deliveries, so there's something for Yuzvendra Chahal, Aron Nijjar, Joe Denly and Jack Leaning to work with.

  11. 50 runs

for James Vincepublished at 14:14 British Summer Time 28 September 2023

    Hants 219 & 128-4 v Surrey 209

The game is right in the balance at the Ageas.

Hampshire's captain is trying to swing it his side's way in his final innings of the season.

He's passed fifty for the eighth time in the campaign, getting to 1,000 runs as well, but only has one hundred.

This one in 98 balls with four fours - needing to be careful against the dual spin of Cameron Steel and Will Jacks.

  12. 100 runs

for Ben Slaterpublished at 14:14 British Summer Time 28 September 2023

    Nottinghamshire 254-5 v Middlesex 366

Ben Slater pulls Tom Helm into the legside and that single gets him his second hundred of the season.

It has taken 208 balls, but Notts won't mind. And neither will Kent!

  13. Postpublished at 14:10 British Summer Time 28 September 2023

    Nottinghamshire 252-5 v Middlesex 366

Ben Slater cuts Josh de Caires to the boundary to move to 98 and bring up the 250 for his team.

It's also a first batting point for Notts.

  14. Lancs start second knockpublished at 14:07 British Summer Time 28 September 2023

    Kent 494 v Lancashire 327 & 4-0

Lancashire openers Keaton Jennings and Luke Wells are in the middle, trying to eat into the 167-run deficit.

And Wells gets up and running with a legside half-volley off Matt Quinn.

  15. wicket

WICKET Moores c Simpson b Helm 0published at 14:00 British Summer Time 28 September 2023

    Nottinghamshire 240-5 v Middlesex 366

    One wicket brings two!

A flashing drive from Tom Moores and he goes for a seven-ball duck.

Is that a glimmer for Middlesex?

  16. wicket

KENT ALL OUT FOR 494published at 13:55 British Summer Time 28 September 2023

    Kent 494 all out v Lancashire 327

Aron Nijjar had upped the ante with only Yuzvendra Chahal for company with a couple of fours and a big six.

But he falls for 42, going for a big hit off Tom Bailey, as the Lancashire man claims his 50th Championship wicket of the year for a fourth time in five seasons - a fine effort.

Kent end with a halfway lead of 167 and will hope spin duo Nijjar and Chahal can take them to victory.

  17. wicket

WICKET Lawrence c Gay b Sanderson 4published at 13:53 British Summer Time 28 September 2023

    Essex 13-5 f/o trail Northants by 145

Northants sensed their opponents' vulnerability in enforcing the follow-on and have exploited it perfectly.

Tight area from Ben Sanderson and Dan Lawrence nicks to second slip. A much more comfortable catch this time for Emilio Gay at waist height.

And that ends Lawrence's time as an Essex batsman.

He came up through the age-groups as Chelmsford, established himself in the first team and played 11 Tests for England.

But the 26-year-old decided a move away was needed and will join Surrey for next season.

  18. wicket

Josh de Caires does make something happen!

Matthew Montgomery advances down the pitch but is beaten by the flight and the wicketkeeper has an easy job.

Now can Middlesex strike quickly after that?

  20. wicket

WICKET Prest lbw b Jacks 9published at 13:44 British Summer Time 28 September 2023

    Hants 219 & 93-4 v Surrey 209

Another for Will Jacks and Surrey.

Tom Prest totally misreads the length, playing back to a ball from round the wicket that turns into his pads and he's slap bang in front of all three.

Five Championship games this season for 20-year-old Prest and a very impressive maiden century last week at Chelmsford.

Certainly a name to watch for next year.
