  15. 'Would be good to see Fire women add some Welsh talent'published at 17:18 Greenwich Mean Time 23 March 2023

    Nick Webb
BBC Radio Wales on Welsh Fire's draft in the women's competition

The Welsh Fire selection brought home the tactics of the ‘right to match’ system as they were blocked from signing Sophie Devine and Danni Wyatt in the top price category, but admitted they’d expected that.

The Wyatt block meant that England big-hitter Sophia Dunkley could be pinched from Southern Brave, while South African quickie Shabnim Ismail will bring fire to the Fire.

With Dunkley and Aussie batter Laura Harris plus the retained duo of Tammy Beaumont and Hayley Matthews, there should be batting power up top.

Georgia Elwiss and Freya Davies bring seam bowling experience, but the re-signed Alex Hartley is the only spinner so far.

A couple more slow bowlers, a wicket-keeper, and at least one more all-rounder will be needed on the open market - and it would be good to see some Welsh-produced talent again at Sophia Gardens.

What a draft for the Originals!

To get the quality of Laura Wolvaardt and Amanda Jade Wellington is just amazing, but it's sad to see Crossy go to our rivals! Onto the mens draft now!

    Danielle Gibson
London Spirit all-rounder on Sky Sports

It's been really cool to watch and the picks have been really good. It will be really good tournament.

We need another batter. Sarah Glenn is a good pick for us.

Lord's is an amazing place to play, it's not a spin wicket but in the women's game spin works well. I love playing under Heather Knight under so I'm glad she's back.
