I’m a little disappointed with Ross Whiteley’s dismissal. Just tap it into the leg side, get a single or maybe even two, let Joe Weatherley have the chance to attack the short side. Don't do that.

  7. 'Another 50 about par'published at 12:01 British Summer Time 15 July 2023

    Hampshire 112-5 v Essex

    Carlos Brathwaite
West Indies all-rounder on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Going into the last five overs – you'd say another 50 is about par. If Hampshire can do that you’re looking at a total of about 160, I’d say anything around 170 as a minimum target for them to take some momentum into the next innings.

Essex will want to keep that to 155 or so to think they’re in with a real shout.

  8. Postpublished at 15 overs

    Hampshire 112-5 v Essex

The Hampshire innings is really grinding to a halt at the moment, just two runs and a wicket off that last Matt Critchley over.

The leggie took 2-22 - Richie Benaud would love that.

    WICKET - Fuller c Snater b Critchley 15published at 14.2 overs

    Hampshire 110-5 v Essex

James Fuller tries to go over the top of midwicket, and Shane Snater takes it at the second attempt just in from the boundary.

  10. Postpublished at 14 overs

    Hampshire 110-4 v Essex

It's cat and mouse at the moment, Harmer is around the wicket and keeping it tight, the batters are not taking any risks. They're probably waiting until the last couple of overs before going large

  11. Postpublished at 13 overs

    Hampshire 101-4 v Essex

Risky stuff from James Fuller, who flips Sams high to leg. Shane Snater lollops in but the ball falls just in front of him at mid on.

Always intriguing to see a top quality spin bowler go about his work. Simon Harmer is absolutely that, he has changed the whole feeling of the occasion, with Critchley.

88 from 11 overs. That is eight an over, if my maths is correct.

It's a good catch, those are never easy. Dawson loses his shape trying to slap the ball down the ground. It goes high in the sky and Critchley keeps his eye on it, tracks the ball and takes a good catch just outside the ring. They always look easier than they are.

Hampshire find themselves in a little bit of trouble.

Liam Dawson took a swipe at Simon Harmer, from around the wicket, and the ball looped high into the offside. Matt Critchley had to run back and took a decent catch over the shoulder to leave Hampshire struggling.
