    Essex v Somerset 129-7

    Carlos Brathwaite
West Indies all-rounder on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Those are the events that change finals. Essex were already in the ascendency but that is how you keep momentum.

There's no momentum at all for Somerset. Even 150 looks a bit far.

  2. Postpublished at 18 overs

    Essex v Somerset 129-7

Sean Dickson is still there for Somerset and he swings the final ball of the over for a single to go to 49.

Just six runs from the over.

145 perhaps the high bar now for Somerset.

  3. wicket

WICKET Overton run out 4published at 17.3 overs

    Essex v Somerset 127-7

    Yes Craig Overton is gone!

Aaron Beard from deep midwicket throws down the stumps and Overton is an inch short.

A little unlucky but superb fielding.

  4. Umpire reviewpublished at 20:13 British Summer Time 15 July 2023

    Direct hit, run out?

Craig Overton charging back for a second and could be short.

  5. Postpublished at 17 overs

    Essex v Somerset 123-6

Craig Overton almost top-edges his first ball to long leg.

18 balls to go, can Somerset reach 150?

  6. 'Somerset need Overton to strike out'published at 20:12 British Summer Time 15 July 2023

    Essex v Somerset 123-6

    Carlos Brathwaite
West Indies all-rounder on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

When you're waving the keeper away you have to take the catch. When he had to dive forward, the ground was the favourite but Das held on.

Craig Overton needs to get a few big blows away now.

Paul Walter for his third over.

And more runs for Sean Dickson - albeit luckily off a cue end fine of third man as he backed away.

But Ben Green has a big swing and is superbly caught at backward point running in.

It swirled around in the breeze. Very well held by Robin Das.

  8. 'Snater is so consistent'published at 20:07 British Summer Time 15 July 2023

    Somerset 114-5 v Essex

    Carlos Brathwaite
West Indies all-rounder on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Shane Snater is keeping it so simple, into the wicket, it's not true bounce or pace, but it's so effective and he's been so consistent actoss both games. That is a skill in itself.

He's made the most of all the resources available to him, his skillset, and he's gone some way to potentially - I don't want to speak too soon - potentially bowling Essex to victory.

  9. Postpublished at 16 overs

    Essex v Somerset 114-5

Shane Snater almost nips one back to bowl Ben Green first ball.

Superb over that Essex needed just to cool this Somerset run.

Snater 3-13 from his four overs. Outstanding stuff.

He's been restraining himself Lewis Gregory but he couldn't resist the temptation of a big shot there.

Matt: It's weird that we have a soft signal in county cricket but no more in international cricket. 3rd umpire got it correct for me though.

    Simple catch to the bowler.

    Somerset 101-4 v Essex

    Carlos Brathwaite

The best finals are the ones that keep you on the edge of your seat until the end - they're probably more exciting than 210 plays 209.

Cricket needs more finals like this...

Make your own mind up - but it's plain Matt Critchley felt a little hard done by.

Essex have got to shrug that off as Sam Cook returns.

Sean Dickson sits deep in his crease and pull wide of long-on for four.

Better over for Somerset - can they kick on?

  20. 'How quickly can Essex move on from that?'published at 19:55 British Summer Time 15 July 2023

    Somerset 77-4 v Essex

    Glenn Maxwell
Australia all-rounder on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

It's about how quickly Essex can deal with their disappointment and move on.

They need to get back to doing what they've been doing so well in the opening 12 overs, bowling line and length over the stumps.
