I'm still a bit in shock at what we saw from Bas de Leede there.

The cruel nature of associate cricket means that Scotland's next ODI is far, far into the future, despite all the promise they have shown in this tournament.

Their attention now turns to the T20 World Cup qualifiers being hosted in Edinburgh later this month.

Goodbye - thanks for your company today and throughout the qualifier.

A beaming Scott Edwards has also been giving his thoughts to Sky Sports:

"That was unbelievable to watch. This group is just incredible. We put in the hard work, and the guys enjoy everyone's success.

"We were confident in the squad we brought, and even the games we lost we played pretty good cricket. It's an awesome feeling. Some unbelievable batting from Bas and Saqib at the end, and we've got through - that's all I've got!

"We knew what we wanted to do, and just needed a couple of batters to cash in at the end there.

"Build the man a statue - five wickets and 120-odd there. He's an unbelievable player, we've always known that. It's not the first time he's done it, and it won't be the last."

  3. 'A really tough one to take' - Berringtonpublished at 15:32 British Summer Time 6 July 2023

    Netherlands 278-6 v Scotland 277-8

A clearly gutted Scotland captain Richie Berrington has been talking to Sky Sports: "A really tough one to take. The guys are hurting.

"From my side, I'm extremely proud of the fight we've shown throughout this tournament. Unfortunately today it wasn't enough, and credit to De Leede for the way he played.

"Through that middle phase we created pressure, but then we just weren't as disciplined as we have been. The bowlers have been fantastic throughout the tournament, so I can't fault their efforts.

"We were prepared and ready for today. Holland were the better team and found a way to get over the line. There's some good building blocks that we can keep improving on, and young players that have come in and done really well."

If nothing else, this qualification tournament has proved that the idea of a ten-team World Cup is a nonsense.

Scotland have beaten three Test playing nations in Ireland, West Indies and Zimbabwe, but come up agonisingly short.

The gap between associate nations and the full members has never been closer.

  5. 'It will be one big party'published at 15:23 British Summer Time 6 July 2023

    Netherlands 278-6 v Scotland 277-8

Bas de Leede was unsurprisingly awarded the Player of the Match award, and has been giving his thoughts to Sky Sports:

"We had a look at where we wanted to be at the halfway point, and from there you've got to do it.

"It was 10,11 an over, so for us it was about going into T20 mode. We tried to take as many runs as possible in each over and just see where we would end up.

"It's amazing, I can't describe the feeling, and it will be one big party tonight."

Bas de Leede won't have to buy a drink in the Netherlands for a fair while, you'd have thought.

He's carried his country to a first World Cup since 2011 with a five-wicket haul and then one of the finest innings you will ever see.

He finished on 123 from 92 balls.

A single into the off-side does the job.

The Scottish players are disconsolate; the Dutch players are jubilant.

The third umpire is checking whether Bas de Leede has been run out here, but he knows he's gone and is trudging off.

    Bas de Leede on strike...

  12. Postpublished at 42 overs

    Two runs finish the over.

Saqib Zulfiqar will be on strike for the Dutch, who need just three runs to seal qualification for the World Cup.

  13. 6 runs

    Postpublished at 41.5 overs

    Netherlands 273-5 (target 278)

Bas de Leede, this is outrageous.

Six more over the bowler's head, and Netherlands need just five more.

  14. 6 runs

    Postpublished at 41.2 overs

    Netherlands 263-5 (target 278)

A misfield from Chris McBride at long-off allows Bas de Leede back for two runs, and the next ball disappears over Brandon McMullen's head for six.

This is one of the great knocks, as gutting as it is from a Scottish perspective.

  15. 6 runs

    Netherlands 255-5 (target 278)

Six more, this time for Saqib Zulfiqar.

The Dutch now need 23 runs from 18 balls - they are firmly in command in Bulawayo.

    Netherlands 240-5 (target 278)

Bas de Leede smashes Mark Watt over long-on for six, and goes again next ball to bring up a sensational hundred from just 84 balls.

He took five wickets earlier on as well.

  17. Postpublished at 40 overs

    Netherlands 233-5 (target 278)

Nine runs from that Brandon McMullen over.

Kudos to Chris Greaves, who isn't letting that dropped chance affect him - he saved a couple of runs off the final ball of the over with a superb diving stop on the boundary.

Netherlands need 45 from 24 balls.

  18. dropped catch

Zulfiqar dropped on 19published at 39.3 overs

    Netherlands 227-5 (target 278)

Saqib Zulfiqar tries to heave Brandon McMullen into the leg-side, and Chris Greaves makes up plenty of ground to his right, but cannot cling on to what would have been a spectacular diving catch.

    They pick up two runs.

  19. Postpublished at 39 overs

    Netherlands 224-5 (target 278)

No wicket, but just six runs added to the total from that Mark Watt set.

Brilliant from him; it will be Brandon McMullen from the other end.

54 needed from five overs with a World Cup spot on the line - it doesn't get much bigger than this...

  20. Not outpublished at 38.3 overs

    Netherlands 221-5 (target 278)

Wow, umpire's call on impact, so Saqib Zulfiqar survives.

I was sure that was going to be out.
