  1. 6 runs

Shah goes big!published at 4 overs

    Denmark 21-1 (target 160)

Hamid Shah faces Brad Currie and it's a real battle. Plenty of dots, until the fifth ball of the over, which Shah dismisses over the rope. What a shot, he just muscled it over the covers. He's Denmark's leading run-scorer in T20I for a reason.

Another inspection at Goldenacre at 2pm in that Italy v Austria game, if you were wondering.

  2. Postpublished at 3 overs

    Denmark 13-1 (target 160)

Gavin Main replaces Mark Watt for the third over and immediately bounces one over the head of Taranjit Bharaj.

He responds brilliantly, flicking one off his pads all the way for four! The first of the Danish innings.

Main has an answer, digging one into the ribs of Bharaj. He's worn that well.

  3. Postpublished at 2 overs

    Denmark 8-1 (target 160)

Taranjit Bharaj is rattled by a short ball from Brad Currie, right into the helmet. That looked a little nasty, and he will have a concussion check now. He seems okay, thankfully.

    A tough over to face.

  4. wicket

WICKET Lægsgaard c Sharif b Currie 1published at 1.2 overs

    Denmark 3-1 (target 160)

Scotland have their first wicket! Nicolaj Lægsgaard lofts it high, high into the sky. Safyaan Sharif has to keep his eye on it while backpedalling as quickly as he can... and he holds!

What a snaffle! That came out of the clouds and Sharif still nestled it!

  5. Denmark get underwaypublished at 1 over

    Denmark 3-0 (target 160)

Nicolaj Lægsgaard and captain Hamid Shah are the opening batters for Denmark, up against Mark Watt.

Shah had been back in Denmark to deal with some personal matters, but he's back now for his first game of the tournament.

A few runs off the over. Almost a boundary, but Oli Hairs shows fantatsic agility to stop it on the rope. Fair play, big fella.

  6. Scotland set 160 target for Danespublished at 12:49 British Summer Time 27 July 2023

Well, what an odd innings. It started slowly and poorly - Oli Hairs and George Munsey departing early and cheaply. Richie Berrington (60) picked up the slack almost single-handedly, ably assisted by Michael Leask.

It looked a bit shaky at times, but Scotland will be content with a target of 160 on a tricky pitch to score on. They also managed to get through all 18 overs with only some light drizzle. Extraordinary.

We'll have a ten-minute break and then Denmark will begin their innings.

  7. Scotland finish on 159-7published at 18 overs

    Scotland v Denmark

Safyaan Sharif is out to bat. He wouldn't have expected that. A little sweep gets him off the mark with a quick single.

Chris Graves telegraphs his next shot but Lægsgaard can't react, as Greaves scoops it over the leg side and it's just inside the boundary rope. It finishes with a four.

  8. wicket

WICKET Watt st Hashmi b Lægsgaard 0published at 17.2 overs

    Scotland 152-7 v Denmark

Into the final over and it'll be Nicolaj Lægsgaard will bowl it. Mark Watt is in, and he likes to hit.

But Denmark take full advantage - it's a golden duck, technically. Watt comes down the track and Abdul Hashmi whips the bails off after a wider ball from Lægsgaard. Legal, apparently!

  9. wicket

WICKET Leask c Bharaj b Ahmad 20published at 16.5 overs

    Scotland 148-6 v Denmark

Michael Leask attempts the sweep and it's a big top edge. It's a difficult edge but Taranjit Bharaj holds onto it, despite slipping. Good take.

It's a shame for Scotland - Leask had started teeing off to push them towards that 160 mark.

  10. 6 runs

    Postpublished at 16 overs

    Scotland 139-5 v Denmark

Can Leask and Greaves get Scotland to the 150 mark? That's certainly what head coach Douglas Watson will want. Leask edges for four, and then sweeps one to the leg side for another. Maybe 160 then.

Saud Munir runs up... and it's a dead ball. He has a word with Chris Greaves at the non-strikers end. That's a warning.

He runs up again. It's a full toss and it's GONE! Leask punishes it. Big six.

And then, there's a bit of a chat between Munir and Greaves, and the umpire. Someone's in trouble, and I think it's the bowler.

  11. wicket

WICKET Berrington c Bharaj b Munir 60published at 15.1 overs

    Scotland 122-5 v Denmark

Oh dear me. Richie Berrington stretches to connect to a full toss from Munir and ends up edging it thickly to short third man. He played that far too early, and falls to a really poor ball.

The skipper stood up when his country needed him. Chris Greaves replaces him.

  12. wicket

    WICKET c M Mahmood b Ahmadpublished at 14.4 overs

    Scotland 120-4 v Denmark

Tomas Mackintosh tries a slog but he hits it off the toe and floats it out to deep mid-wicket, where it's an easy catch for Musa Mahmood.

That's unfortunate, he'd been showing some nice touches. Michael Leask is the next man in.

I'm told Goldenacre is practically underwater, so I'd be surprised if Italy v Austria goes ahead later on. We'll bring you news of that when we have it.

  13. 6 runs

Berrington goes BIG!published at 14 overs

    Scotland 117-3 v Denmark

Tomas Mackintosh gets away with a leading edge that falls just short of extra cover. Berrington was edging and Lucky Ali Malik had a free throw at the stumps from 18 yards - it missed, and Scotland got the runs.

Richie Berrington picks another out. It's a big swing and big hit. He smokes it over the rope and over the commentary tent. That shot comes with a safety warning, as it echoes around the ground.

Meanwhile, some drizzle starts to fall on my laptop screen. Oh dear...

  14. 50 runs

up for Richie Berringtonpublished at 13 overs

    Scotland 107-3 v Denmark

I take that back. Tomas Mackintosh reverse sweeps down the ground. A beautiful shot and it's his first T20I boundary! You wouldn't think it, if he has that shot in his catalogue.

Berrington is next on strike and he smacks it downtown, right out the middle of the bat. That'll leave a nice cherry. And it also brings up his 50!

  15. Postpublished at 12 overs

    Scotland 91-3 v Denmark

Tomas Mackintosh would have had his heart in his mouth with his last ball. It went into the sky but dropped short of any chasing fielder.

I'm told he was quite nervous in his post-match interview after the Austria game. Fair enough, George O'Neill is a rather intimidating character...

  16. 6 runs

New balls, please!published at 12 overs

    Scotland 91-3 v Denmark

Richie Berrington has just swept one out of the ground. Over the rope, over the tennis courts, and possibly all the way into the Water of Leith. Good grief.

Poor Abdullah Mahmood. Berrington goes big again - this time just over the head of the fielder on the boundary rope. A six is a six.

  17. The upset is on!published at 11 overs

    Scotland 74-3 v Scotland

Tomas Mackintosh is in, and struggling to get to grips with Lucky Ali Malik's bowling. That is his name on the teamsheet, I swear.

This could be the tournament's first upset.

  18. wicket

    WICKET McMullen c A Mahmood b Ali Malik 10published at 10.1 overs

    Scotland 70-3 v Denmark

    And the momentum is gone!

McMullen slices one high into the air, but it looks like it might be safe... but Abdullah Mahmood races round from deep cover to slide across the wet turf and hold on. What a take!

The upset could very well be on.

  19. Hosts build momentumpublished at 10 overs

    Scotland 69-2 v Denmark

Another edge goes for four - Richie Berrington is getting good at that shot. His next shot is far more deliberate - pushing it just wide of the keeper and watching it race away.

Just a gentle reminder that a win for Scotland sees them qualify for the T20 World Cup. No pressure.

If Brandon McMullen is feeling any pressure, he isn't showing it. He chips Saud Munir back down the ground. Some shot.

  20. Postpublished at 9 overs

    Scotland 55-2 v Denmark

Maybe I'm being harsh. The rain has made this a tricky field to score on. Either way, Lægsgaard is back on.

After a few quick singles - there's a chance! Berrington tries to smack Lægsgaard back over his head - the 6'5" spinner gets a hand to it, but he can't hold on. It would have been an almighty grab.

Scotland's second-half of this innings needs to be far more fruitful.
