  5. 'The only place I wanted to go'published at 18:23 British Summer Time 3 August 2023

Fresh from the Ashes, Ben Duckett is making his Birmingham Phoenix debut tonight after two years with Welsh Fire.

Speaking exclusively to BBC Sport's Ffion Wynne, he revealed that Phoenix were his only choice once he decided to make the move.

"After my first two years in Cardiff it just felt like time to move on and try something different," he said.

"As soon as the Phoenix were keen, that was the only place I wanted to go and it was just dependent on the draft, but thankfully it all fell in to place for me.

"I knew where I wanted to go, I’d had those chats with Phoenix and I knew they wanted me, so I knew it was just dependent on the three or four picks before that.

"You never know what’s going to happen in a draft but I’m really happy it’s all worked out, and it’s always a nice feeling to know that other teams want you as well."
