Summary

  • Match abandoned because of rain with Originals on 138-5 off 80 balls

  • Buttler brings up fifty off just 29 balls before he is bowled by Bopara for 62

  • Sides take a point each and both still looking for first win

  1. Originals 21-0published at 12 balls

Jos Buttler goes for placement rather than power, clipping Worrall of his legs for four. It skims across the surface, you'd never know we've had so much rain this morning so 10 out of 10 to the ground staff..

Similar shot to Buttler and Salt punishes the wider delivery. So good to watch.

I think the bowlers are encouraged to bowl full because of the movement but if it's too full then it's like giving sweets to a baby.

  3. 6 runs

    Originals 16-0published at 10 balls

Anything you can do, I can do better says Phil Salt!

Buttler's fellow opener also goes down the ground with another superb six off the nonplussed Thompson.

  4. 6 runs

    Originals 9-0published at 8 balls

    That's more like it, Jos!

Buttler lifts Thompson straight, high over the rope and just under the media centre with a lovely, easy looking six.

  5. Originals 1-0published at 5 balls

No fireworks yet from Jos Buttler, he can't get Worrall away for the rest of his set.

    Jordan Thompson is next.

Jos Buttler didn't even look to turn and run back for two. Phil Salt was eager for the second.

At Old Trafford you have to run the twos.

  7. Originals 1-0published at 1 ball

Dan Worrall is the bowler first up, and Phil Salt pushes him into the offside for an easy single.

Manchester Originals v London Spirit (14:30 BST)

It'll be fascinating to see Zak Crawley later on, back on the scene of that incredible 189 in the Test match a few weeks ago. But first up we'll be seeing Phil Salt and Jos Buttler, who are on their way out to the middle.

Over at Edgbaston, the rain is falling and the start of the game between Birmingham Phoenix and Trent Rockets has been delayed.

The covers are still on so there is no news yet about the toss or any potential start time.

We will keep you updated with news from that game as soon as we have it.

London Spirit captain Dan Lawrence on Sky Sports: "With a bit of weather around, we don't really know whether we're going to get a full game and it's also a hybrid wicket so we don't know what it'll be doing, so I thought it'd be best to have a bowl on it.

"I thought our bowlers were brilliant the other night, we were just a few short with the bat. We've got one of the form players in world cricket in Zak Crawley coming in for us."

  12. Postpublished at 14:22 British Summer Time 5 August 2023

Manchester Originals captain Jos Buttler on Sky Sports: "It's nice to be back at home and hopefully we get a full game in.

"Max Holden was brilliant the other night, it's never easy coming in at 0-2 so he showed some real skill and character.

"Josh Tongue misses out tonight and Richard Gleeson is in."

  13. Spirit win toss and bowlpublished at 14:20 British Summer Time 5 August 2023

Manchester Originals v London Spirit (14:30 BST)

Dan Lawrence fancies bowling first, and and on a murky day that's understandable. We'll be seeing his opposite number Jos Buttler opening with Phil Salt for the Originals very soon.
