  1. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 51 balls

    A Kerr c Devine b Levick 11 (Spirit 87-2)

    Caught at mid-on.

Katie Levick has been the pick of the Phoenix bowlers by a distance and gets a deserved wicket.

The spinner tosses one up, Amelia Kerr advances but doesn't get to the pitch of the ball and miscues it to Sophie Devine, who takes the catch low down.

  2. Spirit 87-1published at 50 balls

Tess Flintoff's latest set rather sums things up for Birmingham Phoenix so far today.

It starts with a leg-side wide that Amy Jones to well to get to at all and then follows it up with a bouncer that Grace Harris pulls behind square for four.

More short balls follow and it takes another good start from Issy Wong to prevent a further boundary.

  3. Postpublished at 15:31 British Summer Time 24 August 2023

Birmingham Phoenix have take one wicket so far. Charis Pavely bowled Danielle Gibson for 18...

  4. Spirit 76-1published at 45 balls

    Harris 35, A Kerr 16

London Spirit are on their way to a big total. They've been helped by Phoenix's bowling and fielding but they are making the most of the home team's generosity.

  5. dropped catch

A Kerr dropped on 13published at 42 balls

Tough chance but a chance nonetheless.

Amelia Kerr smashes the ball back straight, Emily Arlott sticks out for left hand but the ball just bounces off it.

It's one of those that just has to stick. This one didn't.

  6. Spirit 73-1published at 41 balls

A little shuffle down the ground by Amelia Kerr and she lofts Emily Arlott's first ball over mid-on for four.

  7. Spirit 69-1published at 40 balls

They say luck evens itself out and it does so quickly for Katie Levick.

She gets away with a long hop that Grace Harris can only hit straight to the fielder.

However, a much better delivery next up comes off Harris' outside edge and runs away for four.

Four from those two balls is about right, it just happened the wrong way around!

  8. Spirit 64-1published at 36 balls

Brilliant work in the deep from Issy Wong, running around from deep backward square and diving to deny Amelia Kerr a boundary.

  9. Spirit 62-1published at 35 balls

Eight from Charis Pavely's latest set. The left-arm spinner has taken the only wicket to fall so far but has also gone for 29 form 15 balls.

  10. Spirit 59-1published at 32 balls

Hammered back over Charis Pavely's head by Grace Harris!

That went straight as an arrow.

  11. Spirit 54-1published at 30 balls

    Harris 25, A Kerr 4

Good start from Phoenix leg-spinner Katie Levick.

She concedes just four from her first set of five with both Grace Harris and Amelia Kerr getting the broom out to sweep.

  12. Spirit 50-1published at 25 balls

Another error in the field allows Spirit a bonus single and another from the last ball of the powerplay takes the visitors to 50.

A good start for the batting side, aided by some less than stellar bowling and fielding.

  13. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 20 balls

    Gibson b Pavely 18 (Spirit 46-1)

A much-needed wicket for Birmingham Phoenix.

It's a yorker from Charis Pavely and with Danielle Gibson half committed to the sweep, she is unable to adjust in time.

The ball clatters into off stump and after a dreadful start, might that be the spark to for Phoenix?

  14. Spirit 43-0published at 19 balls

Danielle Gibson attacks this time, swinging the ball into the leg side and it beats the dive of Erin Burns. Another boundary.

And another. Short and wide from Charis Pavely. Dealt with easily by Gibson.

  15. Spirit 34-0published at 16 balls

Low full toss from Charis Pavely, thumped back down the ground by Grace Harris but it should just be a single.

Instead, Sophie Devine misfields on the boundary and the ball gets through her. Four more.

  16. Spirit 30-0published at 15 balls

Four more. Another ramp from Grace Harris. She's off to a flyer.

A bruising first set back for Issy Wong.

  17. Spirit 26-0published at 13 balls

A wide means the free hit is carried over but Grace Harris is waiting when it does come.

Full from Issy Wong and Harris powers the ball back over her head. One bounce for four.

  18. Spirit 21-0published at 12 balls

    Top shot from Grace Harris.

She uses the pace of Issy Wong and ramps the ball over short fine leg for four.

It's a no-ball as well. Free hit coming up...

  19. Spirit 14-0published at 10 balls

Much better from Charis Pavely after that first ball. Just a single from the next four.

Issy Wong is coming on to bowl the next five. This will be interesting. She's been out of the side and working on her run-up after struggling with it this summer.

  20. Spirit 13-0published at 6 balls

Phoenix are proving to be very generous hosts so far.

Charis Pavely takes over from Tess Flintoff but the spinner also begins with a short, wide ball.

Danielle Gibson gratefully thumps it away through point for four.
