Summary

  • Ireland v India - India win by two runs on DLS

  1. Bye for nowpublished at 18:28 British Summer Time 18 August 2023

Disappointment for the big crowd at Malahide as rain brings a cracking game to an early conclusion.

Jasprit Bumrah made a superb return to international cricket by taking two wickets from his opening five balls.

After a poor start Ireland finished strongly with bowler Barry Mccarthy starring by hitting an impressive unbeaten century - his highest international score.

India reached 47-2 when play was halted and that was just enough to edge Ireland on DLS by two runs and go 1-0 up in the series.

That's all from us for now but we'll be back on Sunday with live text commentary from the second T20.

    Thanks for your company.

  2. India win by two runs on DLSpublished at 18:19 British Summer Time 18 August 2023

I'm afraid the rain is unrelenting in Malahide and we'll have no more play.

It means India win the opening T20 on DLS by just two runs.

Fine margin indeed but the weather, as so often in Ireland, wins out again.

    Rohan Gavaskar
Former Indian cricketer on TNT Sports

Steady start from India. Nothing too flash, nothing too aggressive but that's where they are at the moment, they don't need to be aggressive.

The bowlers have done a good job in restricting Ireland to 139 and that's allowed the batters to take their time and get their eye in.

    Isobel Joyce
Former Ireland cricketer speaking on TNT Sports

It was a fantastic fifty from Barry McCarthy.

Good footwork, great bat speed, a little bit of luck at times but he really deserved his fifty on a day where Ireland needed him to come in and score a big one.
