  3. Irish push India all the waypublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 18 August 2023

Ireland gave India a scare in the second T20 between the sides at Malahide last summer.

    A second-wicket partnership of 176 between Deepak Hooda (104) and Sanju Samson (77) - a world T20 record - helped India to a formidable 225-7.

But the hosts gave chase with Andrew Balbirnie hitting 60 and Ireland needed six off the last ball for success.

Mark Adair missed out as India won by four runs and took the series 2-0.

  5. Weather watchpublished at 14:52 British Summer Time 18 August 2023

It's a cloudy, overcast afternoon in Malahide and I wouldn't be surprised if this game was interrupted by rain.

But we're on schedule for a 15:00 BST start and we'll keep our fingers crossed that the wet stuff stays away from north Dublin.

  7. White relishing 'huge' series at Malahidepublished at 14:47 British Summer Time 18 August 2023

Ireland leg spinner Ben White says it is "absolutely massive" to be playing world number one side India in the three-match T20 series.

India go in as overwhelming favourites but White believes the hosts are capable of pulling off a shock.

"We can beat anyone on our day - you never know what can happen and you have to believe," said the 24-year-old.

"Playing against India at home is huge, they're the best team in the world but we are relishing the challenge."

  10. Bumrah back to skipper Indiapublished at 14:39 British Summer Time 18 August 2023

India are boosted by the return of star paceman Jasprit Bumrah for the Ireland series and he will captain the side at Malahide.

Bumrah has been out for almost a year with a back injury but he is now fully fit to provide a daunting challenge for the Irish batters.

India also have a new face as head coach for the series with Sitanshu Kotak coming in on an interim basis in the temporary absence of Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman.

  13. Irish out to shock world's bestpublished at 14:25 British Summer Time 18 August 2023

In many ways this is a free hit for Ireland as they come up against the might of India in the first of three T20 encounters.

It's the world's top ranked T20 team against the number 12 side.

This might be a home game for Ireland but it won't feel that way when India's army of fans pack the Malahide stands with colour and energy to roar their side on.

Hope for the hosts comes from a mere four-run defeat when the sides met in a T20 at the same venue last year.

And the tourists are not invincible in the format - they are hoping to bounce back after a 3-2 series defeat by West Indies.

Ireland have a history of taking big scalps and they will fired up to add India to that list.
