Really clever bowling from Carter.
Smith lbw b Carter 38 (Phoenix 72-4)
Plumb.
No bat involved, the ball hits Jamie Smith in front of middle and is going on to hit middle and off about a third of the way up.
Matt Carter deserves that wicket. He's bowled superbly so far.

Former England bowler on BBC Two
It looks out to me.
Matt Carter has surely got the key wicket of Jamie Smith.
He hits him full on the boot and it's given lbw. Reviewed in hope by the batter.
Brave 64-3
Maia Bouchier cannot believe it as she smacks a juicy half-volley from Paige Scholfield straight to Suzie Bates at cover and departs for 22 from 25 balls.
New batter Freya Kemp shows some intent with a lovely crisp drive for four with her first ball.
Brave need 67 from 40 balls.
Need 92 more
Matt Carter raced through that set of five and he's continuing into another.
Need 93 more
Brilliant diving stop from Luke Wood in the deep to deny Jamie Smith four.
It's now 29 balls since the last boundary. Phoenix are getting bogged down.
Need 97 more
Excellent 10 balls from Ish Sodhi.
The leg-spinner conceded just six runs and claimed the crucial wicket of Liam Livingstone.
Moeen Ali is the new batter for Phoenix.
Brave 52-2
Maia Bouchier and Georgia Adams look well set as Southern Brave reach 52-2 at the halfway point.
Oval Invincibles were 51-2 at the same stage. Is a thrilling finish on the cards?
Steven Finn
Former England bowler on BBC Two
That was a simple catch for Joe Root, it's a huge wicket in this game.
Livingstone was trying to cut that one hard and it wasn't be best ball from Sodhi but that pressure that he built instead to restrict Livingstone.
Livingstone c Root b Sodhi 9 (Phoenix 66-3)
Big wicket!
Liam Livingstone hasn't really fired yet in the tournament but he is so dangerous and Ish Sodhi's celebration tells you that.
The batter tried to launch the ball over off side, got a thick edge and the ball looped up nicely to Joe Root at short third.
Jamie Smith is leading the charge for Birmingham Phoenix. Here he is hitting back-to-back sixes earlier on...
Need 100 more
Plenty of slower balls from Daniel Sams as you'd expect and Liam Livingstone and Jamie Smith are forced to deal in singles at the end of the set.
Tash Farrant
England bowler on BBC Two
Brilliant work from Hales there, he is a tall lad and has done a good job.
Need 103 more
Excellent work on the boundary by Alex hales to save a run after Jamie Smith had bludgeoned the ball down the ground.
The good news for Phoenix is that they are only two down. Ben Duckett was the second to fall after getting his ramp shot all wrong...
Need 106 more
Another run out chance for Tom Kohler-Cadmore but this time the wicketkeeper is well off target with his shy at the stumps.
Tidy start from off-spinner Matt Carter, though, and the rate is starting to climb for Phoenix.
Trent Rockets' Joe Root on the player mic: "Smith has been really good form throughout this tournament so it will be key to get him out soon.
"One thing that will be important is using that wind to get a wicket."
Brave 42-2
Maia Bouchier and Georgia Adams have steadied things after the loss of those early wickets.
Bouchier is 15 from 16 balls and Adams 11 from seven, but Brave need to accelerate to prevent the run rate from spiralling out of control.
Tash Farrant
England bowler on BBC Two
Gregory will change the pace every ball to keep Livingstone and Smith guessing.
