Well, that was quite something. I don't know about you, but I need a little nap to recover.

Enjoy the rest of your Saturday.

We're coming close to the end of our coverage of this game but there's still a World Cup match going on in Kolkata.

Bangladesh are rebuilding after a shaky start at Eden Gardens following the loss of three wickets as they try to chase down 230 for victory against the Netherlands.

Jimmy Neesham then plundered 58 from 39 to bring his side to within sight of a remarkable victory.

New Zealand needed 19 off the final over and then seven from the final two balls, but Neesham was run out from the penultimate delivery as Australia took a narrow win.

After that it Rachin Ravindra's innings. The young batter played some beautiful strokes, first alongside Daryl Mitchell - who himself made 50 with some lusty hitting - and then the New Zealand middle order.

He reached 116 before becoming the sixth Black Cap wicket to fall, leaving his side needing just under 100 from a little under ten overs.

Devon Conway and Will Young got New Zealand off to fast start, but both fell before the end of the powerplay.

Glenn Maxwell, Josh Inglis and Pat Cummins then wrested the momentum back with some big hitting, as Australia set New Zealand 389 to win - what would be a tournament record chase.

But New Zealand pegged Australia back, taking five wickets for 99 runs in the next 19 overs.

Glenn Phlllips took 3-37, with the key wickets of Warner, Head and Steven Smith.

Let's have a little recap, shall we?

Australia openers David Warner and Travis Head got Australia off to an absolute flyer, putting on a partnership of 175 for the first wicket in just 19.1 overs.

Head, playing in his first match of the tournament, passed 100 and his side looked set for an absolutely mammoth score.

Australia captain Pat Cummins: "That was awesome. Sometimes I have to remember I'm out in the field, not a spectator. A fantastic game, they kept coming at us.

"I love the openers, especially Trav who's been away for five weeks. They showed intent, we want to take the game on.

"That was a good wicket. In patches we bowled really well, sometimes we gave too much width away. Some really good partnerships, it was tough to get into them.

"Marnus threw himself round. It's not the easiest fielding ground, but it made a big difference.

"We'll enjoy this one and get stuck in on the back end."

New Zealand captain Tom Latham: "It was a fantastic game of cricket. There were Ebbs and flows throughout the 100 overs. Obviously to get so close hurts. It was a fantastic game."

On the Australia openers: "They played fantastically well. We were on the back foot straight away. We wanted to take wickets and contain them as much as we could. Everything we through down tended to hit the middle of the bat. We were able to pull it back but they had a couple of key partnerships at the end."

On Glenn Phillips: "He bowled fantastically well. We were on the back foot but it was really important. To bowl 10 overs in a row was great. It is great to see his hard work paying off."

On the chase and Rachin Ravindra: "You need to play the perfect game when you are chasing near 400. They put us off to a fantastic start and it was a fantastic knock from Rachin [Ravindra] - one of the better ones you'll see in a chase. It was pretty special to get close. I'm proud of the guys."

For New Zealand, it was more than a moral victory, it is about testing yourself.

That is why 50 over cricket is so special, two different teams going at it in two different ways.

We've lamented the lack of close games in this tournament - we reached the half way mark without a real nailbiter.

But we've now had two absolute blockbusters, with today's match following South Africa's narrow win over Pakistan yesterday.

  14. 'A hell of a game'published at 14:05 British Summer Time 28 October 2023

Austrlia opener and Player of the match Travis Head: "Nice to be back, it was very close in the end, a hell of a game.

How did it feel returning after being out with a broken hand?: "I've only had a couple of hits, a bit like the Test championship where I was off for six or seven weeks.

How did you find fielding?: "That's the one thing I mainly need to work on, I'm struggling a little bit with that still. It's still early days but it's nice to be back.

What were you and David Warner saying to each other during your mammoth partnership?: "We play together really, really well, we combine really well. Play what comes towards us, try and play positive and do what we can."

Jimmy Neesham hit 58 from 39 with three fours and three sixes.

Those five wides from Starc were almost a game killer, but he came back so well and did not concede a boundary in the rest of that over. If anyone asks why Australia kept Travis Head in the 15 with a broken hand, that is why.

Australia hang on by their fingernails, they almost lost the unlosable. New Zealand came so close, fought so well and so very nearly overran this Australian total.

Australia have their victory - just!

Ferguson can't deliver the six that's required, a full delivery can only be pushed to point.

That's the match - and what a match!

That is unbelievable wicket-keeping from Inglis. It's a full length dive from the keeper and Jimmy Neesham. He could've missed, he could've gone anywhere. Neesham has played an unbelievable knock but he's run himself out with a ball to go.
