Maxwell hasn't moved his feet an inch with that shot, gets the nod of approval from his skipper. I think Cummins is trying not to laugh at the other end.

  2. Aus 231-7published at 39.3 overs

    Target 292

Glenn Maxwell can hardly move his feet but this is a gimme from Naveen-ul-Haq.

The ball is back of a length and sliding down leg so Maxwell can just gets his hands through it and whips it away behind square for four,

Four more! Nailed back down the ground. Again with no foot movement but incredible hands!

  3. Aus 223-7published at 39 overs

    Target 292

Pat Cummins has to remember that his batting partner can barely run.

He pushes the ball into a gap at point, wants a single but Glenn Maxwell quickly turns him down.

Australia are going to have to do this in boundaries while Maxwell is out there.

Without a doubt, this would be the finest innings of a chase, based on where Australia were. He's hot, he's cramping. We've seen so many players suffer cramp at this World Cup.

It's six again. Maxwell is cramping up, standing on one leg. He's trying to take Australia to the semi-finals on one leg.

    Target 292

    Effortless!

Glenn Maxwell looks to be in agony but he's still out there and he's flicked Rashid Khan over long-on for six as if it's the easiest thing in the world.

    What a knock this is.

In terms of balls faced, this is Pat Cummins' longest innings in his ODI career.

  9. Aus 216-7published at 38 overs

    Target 292

Excellent over from Naveen-ul-Haq and it ends with a big swing and a miss from Pat Cummins.

Perhaps he feels he has to go harder now because Glenn Maxwell is struggling.

The physio is on again at the end of the over.

What a knock this has been from Glenn Maxwell. Today, he has just been on another level.

  11. Aus 215-7published at 37.2 overs

    Target 292

Glenn Maxwell jolts as soon as he hits the ball out to long on for a single.

Whatever the problem is, he's really feeling it now.

Glenn Maxwell is now level with David Warner and AB De Villiers on 37 career World Cup sixes. Only Chris Gayle (49) and Rohit Sharma (45) have more.

What might win Afghanistan this game is the fact that Glenn Maxwell looks absolutely knackered.

  14. Aus 214-7published at 37 overs

    Target 292

Very tidy over from Rashid Khan. Just three singles from it but he's only got two overs left.

Glenn Maxwell has put Australia in a position where they don't need to go after Afghanistan's strike bowler.

The Australia all-rounder is clearly struggling, though. He really hobbled through for his last single.

Afghanistan need a wicket so here comes Rashid Khan. This is a big moment in the game.

This is the best ever eighth-wicket partnership in World Cup history. The previous best was Iain Butchart and Dave Houghton who scored 117 against Zimbabwe for New Zealand in 1987.

I'd love to see Glenn Maxwell's wagon wheel, he's hit to all parts of the ground.

  18. Aus 211-7published at 36 overs

    Target 292

Mohammad Nabi has been taken down by Glenn Maxwell in his two overs so far.

Will the experienced off-spinner be back for a third?

Someone in the crowd has just taken a brilliant catch. It's not easy because it's coming over the fence.

    Back problem? What back problem?!

After scooping the previous ball over short fine leg for four, Glenn Maxwell launches this one high into the leg side and into the crowd.

    He struck that so sweetly.
