We're sort of past that first phase where we thought it would be swinging a huge amount. And now we're into that next phase, which Glenn Maxwell managed to exploit.

  2. NZ 93-2published at 16 overs

    Target 398

Kuldeep Yadav is introduced to the attack after drinks and New Zealand milk him for six from the over.

Plenty of delicate sweeps behind square, a relatively risk-free shot given the field and the line Kuldeep is bowling.

An inside edge almost straight onto the stumps. I think it's time Kane Williamson put the lottery on. He has had so many lives in this game.

  5. drinks break

    NZ 87-2published at 15 overs

    Target 398

More good fortune for Kane Williamson.

A defensive prod but Mohammed Siraj finds the inside edge but the ball flashes past the stumps and down to fine leg for four.

Big over for New Zealand, 13 from it. Time for drinks.

That has gone a mile up and a mile back towards us in the commentary box. An unusual six runs, but Williamson will take them.

  7. 6 runs

    NZ 80-2published at 14.1 overs

    Target 398

Banged in short by Mohammed Siraj, Kane Williamson takes it on and top edges it a long way up...

But all the way over KL Rahul's head and into the sightscreen for six.

Not even close to where he was aiming but they all count.

  8. NZ 74-2published at 14 overs

    Target 398

Ravindra Jadeja races through his latest over with just two coming from it.

They were fortuitous as well with Daryl Mitchell sending a leading edge just over the cover fielder.

Daniel Herbert: Should we be worried that the last 3 tournaments have been won by the hosts? People can argue home advantage, but teams learn to adapt. Heading for a situation where it's the same teams that win all the time. OK, the smaller teams have caught up, but it is a worry.

Williamson looks in pain, but he sends the physio off. I think the umpire should check there's not a dent in the ball.

  11. NZ 72-2published at 13 overs

    Target 398

Kane Williamson takes a nasty blow to the stomach from a short ball from Mohammed Siraj.

The physio starts to run on but Williamson gestures for him to go off, he's fine to carry one.

It looked a painful one, though.

The ball goes whizzing on down to the boundary. Four byes. They will not give a jot how the runs are adding up as long as the score board gets moving.

  13. NZ 70-2published at 12.2 overs

    Target 398

Four byes to start the over and then Kane Williamson skips down and slashes the next one down to deep third for four.

Good start to the over for New Zealand.

Jadeja is almost morphing into Captain Jack Sparrow with that headband.

  15. NZ 62-2published at 12 overs

    Target 398

A freebie for Daryl Mitchell as Ravindra Jadeja strays onto the pads and the batter is able to glance it to fine leg for four.

And it's a no-ball! Free hit... but Mitchell can only muscle it to long on for a single.

Still, it's a reasonable over for New Zealand. Eight from it.

Straight to slip. Mitchell is standing there shaking his head as if to say, 'Are you having a laugh?' I think KL Rahul knew it was no good.

  17. NZ 55-2published at 11.3 overs

    Target 398

Reverse sweep attempted by Daryl Mitchell and the ball goes straight to slip.

India are celebrating but Mitchell is unmoved. Given not out and not reviewed.

It came off the batter's forearm and KL Rahul behind the stumps knew it.

Time for a bit of spin. Ravindra Jadeja will bowl the next over.

You know there's four runs because there is silence around the ground.

  20. NZ 54-2published at 11 overs

    Target 398

Four more for Daryl Mitchell as he rocks back and pulls Mohammed Siraj's bouncer away behind square.

No stopping that. Eight from the over.
