Australia seem to be on top of their game in this match, if they go through it should be a hell of a final, both bowling attack and the batting line-ups would grace any final.

  2. SA 46-4published at 15 overs

David Miller nervously defends Adam Zampa's fourth ball and the ball skips away to beat his outside edge. There's an appeal from the Aussie leggie, but it's somewhat stifled.

    No bat on that.

Marco Jansen, the next man in, is a nervous person by nature, he needs a lot of work before going out to play, so I imagine at 44-4 he must be even more nervous.

A team that has a complete phobia about chasing, bats first in ideal bowling conditions, doesn't deserve to be in a World Cup final.

Aussie leg-spinner Adam Zampa has the ball in hand. David Miller is on strike.

I am sure people will have their bit to say about South Africa choking but that isn't what has happened. It has just been incredible bowling, too good.

They haven't thrown it away, they have been blown away.

Given we have the four best teams in the competition, playing in semi final slots, I wonder how Steven Finn would change the format to ensure we don't experience further one sided semi finals.

The umpires are out in the middle, cowering under a royal blue official ICC brolly, talking to the groundstaff.

A few other important-looking gentleman are clutching mobile phones to their ears.

No signs of the covers coming off at the moment.

Boundaries have been few and far between for South Africa. There's been five in total, three of them have been pretty streaky.

    These two were okay, mind.

No immediate signs that the covers are coming off just yet, but by the same token the crowd do not seem particularly inhibited any precipitation that is around.

You can question South Africa's decision to bat first but they had to. It was their best chance.

And Pat Cummins said he would have done the same.

The drinks break should have finished by now and the players are still off the field.

Rain has stopped play. Hopefully this delay will not be too long.

We all know South Africa are good batting first, however the decision to bat first in these conditions has to be up there as one of the worst decisions in cricket history... not surprised at current score...

I do have to say, none of these sheets are coming on with great urgency. It's the faintest of faint mizzle.

With rain falling the covers have now come on at Eden Gardens. A few brollies are going up.

  19. drinks break

South Africa 44-4 at drinkspublished at 09:43 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2023

The players take drinks, although with a few spots of rain around they decide to take them in the sanctuary of the pavilion rather than out in the middle.

That was almost like a block-chip to Hazlewood at mid-on. I don't think they expected him to take the catch, but at least get there to stop it.
