India couldn’t have had a worse start. Six runs conceded without a legal delivery bowled!

  2. Eng 6-0published at 0.1 oves

Grim start for Indian opening bowler Renuka Singh.

She offers up consecutive legside wides to begin the innings, the second slipping past keeper Richa Ghosh - who's standing up for some reason - and racing away for five runs.

    Thanks Ffion.

Sophia Dunkley is at the crease for England. She's licking her lips - are they just dry, out at the prospect of an uncomplicated chase?

With every bowler taking a wicket, it's fair to say it was a solid all-round effort from England's point of view.

Spinners Charlie Dean, Sophie Ecclestone and Sarah Glenn finished with two wickets each, seamer Lauren Bell also took two while all-rounders Nat Sciver-Brunt and Freya Kemp chipped in with one each.

For India, the only resistance came from number three Jemimah Rodrigues, who battled for 30 from 33 balls before becoming the eighth wicket.

England will be hoping to get this chase done in style, and here's Mike Peter to take you through it.

It's one of India's poorest performances. They kept playing across the line, there was no thought process.

Dean was brilliant, you want the opening bowlers to set the tone in T20 cricket. To get Mandhana, the key batter - she didn't allow her or Verma any width outside the off stump.

England's Charlie Dean on TNT Sports: "I was very disappointed to miss the first game. I am thrilled to be back and to be back like that, I am always proud when I put on an England shirt, but that is one to remember for sure.

"There was a bit of turn and pace on offer and I was looking to skid one through on occasion and I think that's what helped me get my wickets.

"It is super important for me to back my best ball and stay a bit boring. Sometimes I get caught in the trap of trying to do too much. It is trusting my stock ball. It is a great privilege to play out here and I'm enjoying every moment of it."

    What a bizarre innings.

It doesn't look like a particularly tricky pitch, there is a bit of grip for the spinners but no extravagant turn and very little swing for the seamers either.

But from Charlie Dean removing Shafali Verma second ball after a tentative back-foot prod, it was just carnage.

England bowled very well, make no mistake - but it should never have been 80 all out.

There’s some glum faces in the Indian dugout. This has been a pretty miserable performance from India in front of plenty of disappointed fans. They’re a team who’ve come on in leaps and bounds these past few years. But, this performance has been very reminiscent of the India of the past.

  9. wicket

    Ishaque b Ecclestone 8 (Ind 80)

And that is that. India are all out for 80.

Saika Ishaque sweeps, misses and Sophie Ecclestone hits. She finishes with 2-13 and England have a simple chase on their hands.

They're ready for an early finish.

Over in the India dugout, Harmanpreet Kaur has got a rather stern look on her face.

  10. Ind 79-9published at 16 overs

Renuka Singh is India's last batter. They've got to aim for 100 here but that seems incredibly unlikely.

Nine down. India's misery is almost over.

Titas Sandhu, in an unenviable position, tries to launch Lauren Bell into the leg side but gets a top edge that loops straight back up to the bowler for a simple catch.

India haven't had an answer all innings.

  12. Ind 75-8published at 15 overs

Finally something for the India crowd to cheer!

Saika Ishaque thumps Charlie Dean straight back over her head for four.

  13. dropped catch

Ishaque dropped on 2published at 14.1 overs

    Ind 69-8

Having taken a sensational catch off her own bowling earlier, Sophie Ecclestone puts down a much simpler chance at mid-on.

She had to dive forward and the ball bursts through her hands after a slog from Saika Ishaque, but she could've done better to get off the mark quicker and make it a lot easier for herself.

  14. Ind 69-8published at 14 overs

Sophie Ecclestone is hard enough to play at the best of times.

When you're eight wickets down in the fourteenth over, it's pretty much impossible. Just one from the over.

  15. 'This performance has made a statement'published at 14:34 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2023

All of England’s bowlers have now picked up a wicket. It’s been a superb team display. With a lot of the pre-series chat reflecting on England’s T20 series loss to Sri Lanka in September and speculating how England would fare in Indian conditions - I think this performance has made a statement.

  16. Ind 68-8published at 13 overs

Saika Ishaque gets off the mark first ball and it's a matter of simply trying to bat out the overs from India's point of view now.

Only two batters have made it into double figures so far.

Glenn responds perfectly! Jemimah Rodrigues' resistance comes to an end.

Tough task for India's number three, having bravely withstood a lot of the carnage and watched helplessly at the other end as her team-mates wilted.

She tries to nudge Glenn into the leg side for a single but is pinned in front by a fuller delivery.

  18. Ind 67-7published at 12.4 overs

We haven't had a boundary for 40 balls, and here's Jemimah Rodrigues with two in a row! Both sweetly-timed sweeps to put Glenn under a little more pressure.

  19. dropped catch

    Ind 59-7

    A rare mistake from England!

Jemimah Rodrigues whacks one straight back at Sarah Glenn, who fumbles in her follow-through. It was hit firmly, a reaction catch more than anything, but it didn't stick.

  20. wicket

    Freya Kemp joins the party!

Shreyanka Patil swings, edges and is safely pouched by Amy Jones behind the stumps as Jemimah Rodrigues, on 22, loses yet another batting partner.

There is a very decent crowd at the Wankhede Stadium which is so good to see but they've barely had anything to cheer.
