The players have had a break and it's time for me to follow suit.

As England search for late wickets, here's Callum Matthews to take the reins.

It makes it a little easier to digest this series when you remind yourself that we are quite probably watching one of the next great batsmen of our generation. England’s mid order could learn a thing or two from Jaiswal.

India are looking very comfortable but this series is all about twists and turns. I wouldn't be surprised if one is around the corner.

  4. Ind 72-0published at 15 overs

Yashasvi Jaiswal sweeps Shoaib Bashir for four and that brings up the scarcely believable fact that he's already reached 1,000 Test runs.

This is just his ninth Test. How?!

  5. 6 runs

    Ind 66-0published at 14 overs

Too short from Hartley and that's six all day long.

Rohit Sharma gratefully wallops another into the stands.

  6. Ind 57-0published at 13 overs

Bashir is kept away from Jaiswal for a bit longer. Just a single from his third over.

And Dan makes a fair point. It doesn't feel like a thrashing, even if it does end up 4-1. Yes, lots of things have been frustrating, but England have been competitive and that shows just how difficult it is to beat India in their own conditions.

England's tour hasn’t been that bad. The looming 4-1 scoreline (probably should be 5-0) is bad, but Bazball has at least kept things largely competitive, games have generally been closer aside 1 bad England day in each game. With debutant spinners and bats 3-7 collectively in absolutely no form, none of which is attributable to Bazball style, what more could we expect? Roll on the English summer!

Rohit responds with a clip for four with lovely timing, before a more agricultural heave over the vacant mid-wicket region for the same result.

This is rather different to how India's spinners bowled on this pitch.

    How bizarre.

There's no edge, and the bat is nowhere near the ground or his pads so goodness knows what Ben Foakes thinks he heard.

    England waste a review.

  10. England reviewpublished at 11.2 overs

    Hmmm.

Has Rohit Sharma been caught behind? England think so, but again, he looks very calm.

  11. Ind 47-0published at 11 overs

A bit of respite for Bashir as he gets to bowl at Rohit Sharma for a bit.

It's a maiden, which will make him feel a lot better.

Tom Hartley keeps things tight with just three runs from his over.

We know that Ben Stokes will keep bowling Bashir, that is his style. But it'll be a big test of the youngster's character, like Hartley himself had in Hyderabad.

It's going to be another tough ask for England's spinners. They've had to do a lot of growing up and quickly on this tour. They've coped with it admirably but this is going to be a step too far? You just get the feeling that the India openers, having seen off the new ball, will be looking to take these two down.

  15. 6 runs

Three in the over! Welcome to the game, Shoaib Bashir.

One straight down the ground, another over cover, the last over mid-wicket.

    Astonishing.

  16. 6 runs

He's extraordinary, isn't he? Another six is slashed over cover this time.

  17. 6 runs

    Ind 32-0published at 8.3 overs

Spin from both ends as Shoaib Bashir is introduced.

And he's greeted by a fabulous lofted drive for six by Yashasvi Jaiswal, who makes it look irritatingly easy.

Seeing through the pacers' first spell, especially James Anderson, is a tick for India.

  19. Ind 26-0published at 8 overs

    Here's Tom Hartley.

The drubbing he received from Jaiswal in the first Test seems like a lifetime ago now. He looks much more confident and starts well here, just a single coming from his opening over with all six balls bowled to the young left-hander.

Rohit Sharma is looking in great nick. There have been hooks and pulls and then those sort of lazy drives through the off side.

England will be panicking. If there's no new-ball breakthrough then they've got two inexperienced spinners on a pretty decent wicket. They are staring down the barrel.
