Those 11 lines on James Vowles' forehead now run very deep. The Vegas street circuit is littered with the aftermath of Franco Colapinto's crash and the Williams team principal can only watch on as the clean-up operation begins.

I was just thinking this had been such a clean weekend, all the red flags that we've had which is only two, have been cars breaking down, but that is such a heavy impact and we've seen the Williams crew in the garage head in their hands, it's going to be a long night for them.

That is one hefty shunt for Franco Colapinto. The rookie clips the wall on the inside of Turn 16 in the final sector, with his car coming to a stop in a crumpled mess further down the track.

Franco Colapinto has hit the wall! The Argentine tells the team he is OK, but this is the last thing Williams needed after all the damage picked up in Sao Paulo.

A nice change for the Sauber team as they get to watch Zhou Guanyu take part in Q2. The Chinese driver is down in the bottom five, however, so needs a bit of Vegas luck to drag himself out.
George Russell improves but so does Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time world champion is to by two tenths.

First turns to third for Max Verstappen as Lewis Hamilton improves on his previous lap time. Can George Russell do any better? He can. The second Mercedes is now the man to topple thanks to his 1:32.881.

The times are so tight at the top of the board. The gap minuscule between Lewis Hamilton and Oscar Piastri, but Max Verstappen comes through in the Red Bull to now go quickest, just 0.051 seconds ahead of old title rival Hamilton.

Lando Norris was admitting defeat at the start of the weekend [in regards to the title fight], he knows it's going to be tough and that a lot has got to go wrong for Max Verstappen.

George Russell, Max Verstappen and Nico Hulkenberg have all put times on the board good enough for the P1 spot. Franco Colapinto, who has out-qualified Williams team-mate Alex Albon, is also running in the top five. Lewis Hamilton is next to cross the line and goes fastest of the lot with a 1:33.136.

This is looking good for George Russell and Lewis Hamilton, but I think Max Verstappen as well will have confidence after finishing third-fastest.
It is going to be about where you are on the track, can he utilise the use of a tow and also be able to get those tyres up to temperature and find himself on track where there is minimal traffic too.

Sergio Perez said there was no grip in that first qualifying session. The Mexican will be starting way down in P16 tomorrow - a major blow for Red Bull's title hopes in the constructors' championship.
Zhou Guanyu has made it into Q2. Well done the Sauber driver.
Fernando Alonso is going to be disappointed with that last run, he was in the top 10 after the first runs. Something has obviously gone wrong on that last lap, I don't know if that's a driving error or something with the car.

This is such a strange session because usually you would see drivers go out, box, possibly put on another set of soft tyres. George Russell is on his eighth lap, that just shows that there is no huge tyre life, they can keep going and going.

Max Verstappen had a short stint at the top of the board but is moved down the pecking order to third after the two Mercedes bank decent attempts. Lewis Hamilton went quickest first, followed by George Russell clocking a 1:33186.
Oh dear. One Red Bull is through to Q2, the other has fallen at the first hurdle...
