  1. 180km remainingpublished at 12:16 British Summer Time 6 July 2017

Perrig Quemeneur, Vegard Stake Laengen and Frederick Backaert are zipping along quite nicely out front.

There are fields left and right as far as the eye can see and the sun is shining. All in all, it's a beautiful Tour de France day.

  2. Will Froome stay in yellow to Paris?published at 12:10 British Summer Time 6 July 2017

The once a year cycling fans in the BBC Sport office are saying this will now be a procession for Chris Froome to Paris.

Do you agree with them? Or is there a man in the peloton who can stop him completing the 'three-peat' and winning a fourth title in five years?

  3. 'Maybe I can attack Froomey'published at 12:02 British Summer Time 6 July 2017

An unexpected but "amazing" four days in the yellow jersey came to an end for Geraint Thomas on stage five.

The Welsh legend is still second overall remember, just 12 seconds behind team-mate Chris Froome, which could be handy if anything happens to the defending champ.

And if his team leader stays upright, G cheekily suggested: "Maybe I can attack Froomey in the next few days and win it back off him."

  4. BeSpoke from the 5 live team carpublished at 11:50 British Summer Time 6 July 2017

A slight change of scenery for the daily BeSpoke podcast from last night.

No secluded cafe, or chateau for OJ Borg, Rob Hayles, Simon Brotherton and the team after they got caught on La Planche des Belles Filles.

Oh no. The team piled into one car and recorded their review of stage five as they drove. And thankfully no sign of Rob's pants on the parcel shelf.

Have a watch - at 15 minutes long it'll fit nicely into a tea break...

  5. 200km remainingpublished at 11:49 British Summer Time 6 July 2017

Yep, just the 120 miles or so to Troyes. The leaders are four minutes clear.

So, plenty of time to have a look at this...

  6. Back to life, back to realitypublished at 11:47 British Summer Time 6 July 2017

Mark Cavendish has been on instagram. The sprinter crashed out of the Tour and broke his shoulder on Tuesday.

As well as thanking the medics who looked after him, the dad of two has posted: "Well, out of the #letourdefrance, external bubble and back to real life. 💙"

  7. Round the world in 80 days - on a smoothiepublished at 11:42 British Summer Time 6 July 2017

    #GetInspired

Our Tour de France riders are going to be cycling 3,500km or so over 21 days (23 if you include rest days).

That's nothing, when compared to British endurance cyclist Mark Beaumont. He is five days into his record attempt to cycle around the world, covering 18,000 miles in 80 days.

Before setting off, he told us about his inspirations, his life in cycling and the importance of nutrition - all while making a smoothie is under 80 seconds!

You can check on Mark's progress here, external. And to find out more about getting into cycling (possibly aiming for something a bit more modest to start with...) check out our inclusive Get Inspired guide.

  8. Three in the breakpublished at 11:36 British Summer Time 6 July 2017

From the off, Perrig Quemeneur of Direct Energie and Vegard Stake Laengen of UAE Emirates sprinted clear of the peloton.

Perrig gave a little look over his shoulder and saw one more rider coming. He gave him a quick wave on to say "hurry up, let's go while we've got the chance" and just like that, the break has gone.

Frederick Backaert of Wanty-Groupe Gobert was the last man to join the trio and they are now more than two minutes clear as those in the peloton amble along, having a chat among themselves.

  9. Will Froome keep yellow to Paris?published at 11:32 British Summer Time 6 July 2017

All of my colleagues, bar none, have been telling me that this Tour is now over and Chris Froome is now embarking on a lap of honour around France on his way to a third successive win and fourth in five years.

I tried pointing out that Fabio Aru looked strong in winning stage five and is only 14 seconds back. Australia's Richie Porte is just 39 seconds back.

Froome could have a bad day, he's yet to win a bike race in 2017, remember...and there's still 16 stages to go.

    What do you reckon? #bbccycling

  10. Hello, good morning and welcomepublished at 11:26 British Summer Time 6 July 2017

Hello and welcome to stage six of the 2017 Tour de France.

The riders are just setting off from Vesoul on a 216km race to Troyes, heading in a largely north-west direction. A lengthy roll-out but finally here's Christian Prudhomme with his white flag and the racing can begin.

A bunch sprint finish is expected and, as always, we'll get into the guts of the race shortly and find out who gets in the inevitable break.

First though, a little look back at yesterday's stage..

  11. Test or Tour?published at 11:22 British Summer Time 6 July 2017

Could I humbly suggest both Matt? You could have TMS on BBC Radio 5 live Sports Extra and the cycling via this live text...

England are struggling anyway. 17-1 with former captain Cook already back in the hutch.

  12. Good to be back in yellowpublished at 11:20 British Summer Time 6 July 2017

The Tour de France had visited La Planche des Belles Filles twice before yesterday's mountain-top finish.

On both occasions, the man who ended the stage in the race leader's yellow jersey (Bradley Wiggins in 2012 and Vincenzo Nibali in 2014) went on to win the race.

No wonder then that Chris Froome was all smiles when he collected his first maillot jaune after taking over at the top of the standings from his Team Sky team-mate and fellow Britain Geraint Thomas.
