    102km to go

There are 34 riders in this break which is still heading up the Cormet de Roselend. The alpine scenery is absolutely stunning but sadly they won't get a chance to enjoy it.

The escapees are one minute and 20 seconds clear of the yellow jersey group, which contains all the big hitters in the General Classification.

  2. Bauhaus abandonspublished at 13:23 British Summer Time 19 July 2023

    108km to go

German sprinter Phil Bauhaus has abandoned the race - he had been dropped by the Grupetto and was all on his own.

That leaves us with 155 riders in this Tour. We started with 176.

I'm not going to list everyone in this breakaway group but there are 33 of them now. Ciccone will be after 10 more mountain points at the top of Cormet de Roselend.

Pello Bilbao and Simon Yates have joined them too and there are now almost 30 riders together at the front of the race.

The yellow jersey bunch is much smaller, consisting of 13 men - Vingegaard, Pogcar and Adam Yates are in that group, which are one minute and 20 seconds back down the road.

We're still going up Cormet de Roselend by the way, with 13km to go to the summit.

More riders have joined the Ciccone and Alaphilippe breakaway, which is up to nine... no, make that 11 men now.

They've opened up a gap of more than a minute on the yellow jersey bunch.

    116km to go

The three escapees - Giulio Ciccone, Julian Alaphilippe and Krists Neilands - have been joined by four more riders who bridged the gap.

Behind them, two men apiece from the teams of Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar have gone off the front of the yellow jersey bunch.

The race is heading uphill again, another category one climb to the top of Cormet de Roselend... it's a long one too, with 19.9km to the summit.

    118km to go

It's all a bit chaotic at the moment - there are at least six groups of riders all over the road, including the three men at the front of the race, the yellow jersey bunch and the grupetto - the sprinters just looking to survive today - who are right at the back.

    120km to go

The front of the race is changing shape all the time... the three escapees are about 15 seconds clear but they could be joined by a lot more riders very soon - the main peloton caught the yellow jersey group on that descent and immediately several of them tried to bridge the gap.

Another attack off the front as the race speeds downhill and Ciccone, Julian Alaphilippe and Krists Neilands are about 20 seconds clear of the small yellow jersey group.

    135km to go

There are 32 riders in the break now, including the yellow jersey of Vingegaard and Pogacar, who has some blood on his left knee after that earlier crash but seems fine.

  13. More mountain points for Cicconepublished at 12:23 British Summer Time 19 July 2023

    137km to go

There are 10 mountain points up for grabs here for the first man to the top of Saisies... Neilson Powless has just been dropped so it is Giulio Ciccone who takes them, uncontested, and he cements his lead in the polka dot jersey... he is now 15 points ahead of Powless.

Wow... Jumbo-Visma have just smashed the front of the peloton apart too - it means Vingegaard and Pogacar have caught the breakaway group.

    139km to go

The race is still heading up the first climb of the day - the leaders have 2.2km to go to the top of the Col Saisies - and already there are lots of riders finding the pace very hard... a group of about 25, including the green jersey of Jasper Philipsen and all his sprinter mates, have fallen off the back of the main group.

TV have just shown replays of the Pogacar crash, which happened a while ago now - he was next to Vingegaard when he touched wheels with another rider and went to ground.

Pog broke his right wrist in a crash in April but this time he fell to his left - the good news is that he seems to have survived unscathed this time.

Another escape attempt - a much bigger group this time - has got away off the front...

Ciccone, Powless and Alaphiippe are all there this time. So is Britain's Simon Yates and Pogacar's right-hand man, Rafal Majka, in a bunch of 18 riders who are about 25 seconds clear of the peloton.

    144km to go

There are reports that Tadej Pogacar was involved in a minor crash earlier, but I didn't see it on the TV feed... right now he is in his normal position, next to overall leader Jonas Vingegaard, and is surrounded by plenty of his UAE team-mates too.

Lots happening at the back of the peloton too. Britain's Tom Pidcock, who is 12th overall, is one of those struggling to stay in touch... he's not alone.

It looks like the race is coming back together, for now... but there is lots going on at the front of the peloton.
