Christophe Talbotski: MVG far from his best, beating Lewis and Taylor a combined 21-7. Ridiculous.

Hard to disagree with that. Van Gerwen is undoubtedly the best in the world right now, and he either needs to be really off form or up against an inspired opponent to be beaten.

"I thought just relax, try and throw quicker, try and throw slower, but I just couldn't react against him.

"His scoring is good, but his finishing is phenomenal and that's where it hurts you. He's an Anthony Joshua, that's what he is at the minute."

That is about as one-sided a final as you're ever likely to see, as Michael van Gerwen finishes 68 on double four to wrap up an 11-3 victory.

Phil Taylor's dished out a few of those himself over the years, but tonight is all about Van Gerwen.

It's his second Premier League title - and right now he's the greatest on the planet.

Michael van Gerwen 10-3 Phil Taylor

Phil Taylor looks a bit of a broken man up there. He's missing doubles for fun now as Michael van Gerwen takes out two tens after his own double problems to move one leg away from the title.

Boo Michael van Gerwen. Rubbish! The Dutchman hits two 180s at the start of leg 12 to leave 141 for a nine-dart finish.

But he sends the seventh dart above the treble 20 and it's not to be. MvG cleans up on double eight to move two away from the title.

That's a 12-dart leg for Michael van Gerwen to break the throw. He hits back-to-back 140s then 145 to leave 76 which he finishes on double four.

    Brilliant.

Oh my word, that is stunning from Michael van Gerwen. With Taylor waiting on double 20, MvG finishes 100 with two double tops.

It's something we see him do so often these days, but absolutely crucial there. The players go off for a short break.

Yep, you never write Phil Taylor off. The Power finishes 80 on double 10 after Van Gerwen puts the pressure on to leave 36.

Michael van Gerwen 6-2 Phil Taylor

This is looking far too easy for Michael van Gerwen against the 16-times champion of the world.

He takes out double 10 to open up a four-leg advantage. That's five legs in a row to the world number one.

Michael van Gerwen 5-2 Phil Taylor

Michael van Gerwen is approaching top gear now. He fires in a 180 to leave 124 which he misses on the bull.

No problem for the 27-year-old though as he returns to clean up 25 on double eight.

Taylor needs to find something quickly here otherwise this final could get away from him.

Michael van Gerwen 4-2 Phil Taylor

We've got some double trouble now, but Michael van Gerwen eventually finds double 16 at the third time of asking.

Phil Taylor also missed three darts at the same double. You can't afford to do that against MvG, Philip.

And there is that break of throw. After firing in another 180, Van Gerwen leaves himself 60 which he takes out no bother.

Magnificent from Mighty Mike who is averaging 113.

Michael van Gerwen 2-2 Phil Taylor

The finishing is spot on so far from these two darting greats. Van Gerwen hits double top with his first dart to bring it back to 2-2.

We're still waiting for our first break of throw.

Both players hit their first maximums of the final, but it's Taylor's which proves decisive as he leaves himself 51 which he takes out on double 16.

How many times have we seen him hit 32 with his first dart over the years?

Michael van Gerwen 1-1 Phil Taylor

What a response from Michael van Gerwen! The Dutchman takes out 121, the highest finish of this evening, to square things up.

He makes it look as simple as shelling peas.
