Michael van Gerwen said it: that really has been a fantastic night for darts!

The most 'one-sided' matches of the night were won by two legs, five of seven went the distance.

The final was one of them and what a match it was. Luke Littler was superb but a first night win in the Premier League will have to wait at least another week.

MVG edged him in the deciding leg this time after both players averaged over 100.

Result: Michael van Gerwen 6-5 Luke Littler

Night two winner Michael van Gerwen, speaking to Sky Sports: "A lot of times I don't miss treble 20s either but it happens in darts. I thought it was a fantastic night for darts. I'm really pleased with my own performance today, finally I was able to give it the final push.

"I'm playing really well and in the important moments I was able to keep the pressure on my opponents. I feel good but there is more to come.

"Me and Vincent van der Voort have been speaking a lot and sometimes my energy levels in the game hasn't been great. You need to find a solution because I know I have the ability. We're working on that but at the moment it's going really well."

On playing Luke Littler in finals: "It's good. I hope we can keep it that way as well.

"In this format, in the Premier League, you have to be good week after week. It's non-stop and I think that was good for me. I was always putting energy into my game and that helps me in the long run.

"It is only week two. Everyone was saying 'last week you lost in the first round!' Don't worry, it's not a sprint, it's a marathon."

Luke Littler is still in his embryonic stage as a darts player but we know he's the real deal and he's proven it time and again. It's only taken him two weeks to reach his first nightly final.

Michael van Gerwen has been playing decent darts without winning events. I still think he's the best player in the world when they all play well. He's nowhere near his best right now and he still plays like that.
