So, let's bring you up to date with what happened earlier today.

David Weir's miserable Paralympics ended in disappointment as he was forced to withdraw from the men's T54 marathon after a crash damaged his wheelchair during the race.

Weir has won six gold medals in his career but will return home empty handed from Brazil. He is certainly not a happy man.

Three-time Paralympic cycling champion Barney Storey said "the whole cycling community" is feeling a sense of loss after Iranian para-cyclist Bahman Golbarnezhad died during the men's C4-5 road race.

"It's not just the para-cycling community, the whole cycling community does have that feeling of loss at the moment," Storey told Jonathan Overend.

This was Golbarnezhad's second race at the Rio Paralympics, having finished 14th in the C4 time-trial race on Wednesday.

Golbarnezhad, from the city of Shiraz in southern Iran, also participated in the London 2012 Paralympic Games, having taken up the sport in 2002.

  3. 'An exemplary sportsman'published at 22:01 British Summer Time 18 September 2016

Cyclist Bahman Golbarnezhad, 48, a married father-of-one, crashed on the mountainous Grumari loop during the C4-5 road race on Saturday and died later in hospital.

His death is the first in competition at a summer Olympics or Paralympics since Danish cyclist Knud Enemark Jensen in the 100km team time trial at the 1960 Rome Olympics.

The Iranian Paralympic Committee said Golbarnezhad was an "exemplary Paralympic sportsman who, with love and energy, tried his best to promote the name of Iran and to make all of us proud and at the end he gave his life for this".

As well as the closing ceremony tribute, flags were lowered to half-mast as Iran won gold on Sunday afternoon in the sitting volleyball gold-medal match against Bosnia-Herzegovina, one of the final events of the Games.

Flags have also been lowered around the Paralympic village.

Good evening and welcome to BBC Sport's live text commentary of the closing ceremony of the 2016 Paralympic Games from Rio.

The hard work is done for the competitors, and now they can relax and reflect on dreams they achieved or narrowly missed out on and enjoy one final celebration.

However, there will also be a great sense of sadness in the Maracana tonight following the tragic death of Iranian cyclist Bahman Golbarnezhad, who died yesterday after crashing in the C4-5 road race.

Tributes will be paid to Golbarnezhad during the evening in what will be an emotional occasion.
