  1. HALF-TIME STATSpublished at 20:55 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2014

    Aston Villa v Arsenal

Not pretty reading for Villa fans, as Arsenal have completely bossed this one. Mind you, they have only had two shots on target - they just scored both of them. Clinical, clinical stuff from Arsene Wenger's boys.

  2. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:54 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2014

BBC Sport Chief Football Writer Phil McNulty at Villa Park

"Huge gulf in class between these two sides - and complacency will surely be Arsenal's only enemy against an Aston Villa side looking devoid of confidence.

"To say the home supporters are frustrated is an understatement while Arsenal's fans are enjoying some exhibition stuff from The Gunners."

  3. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:53 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2014

    Robbie Savage
BBC Radio 5 live at Villa Park

"Christian Benteke can't hold the ball up and when he loses it I don't see greatest urgency to win it back. At the opposite end, Giroud's excellent work-rate does not even compare.

"The best teams work hard on and off the ball - and that's what Arsenal have done. Aston Villa look like a side that will be battling against relegation at the end of the season. You can't see where this Villa team are going."

You can listen to live audio commentary from Villa Park on BBC Radio 5 live.

  4. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:53 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2014

Some subdued boos ring out from the home fans as the referee brings this half to an end. So, so easy for Arsenal.

  5. Postpublished at 20:51 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2014

Still another three minutes of added time to go as Villa look in vain for something to give the home fans something to cheer about. Fabian Delph breaks clear but he has no support at all, looking around aimlessly for help and he is eventually closed down and stripped of the ball, Olivier Giroud chasing back 50 yards to win it off him. Great determination from the big striker.

Tricks, flicks, first-time passes and goals - this is the best 45 minutes I've seen from Jack Wilshere in a long while. He has been fantastic so far and almost gets a shot away at the end of another flowing move which was started by Santi Cazorla's peach of a ball down the right.

  7. INJURY TIMEpublished at 20:46 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2014

There are EIGHT MINUTES added on at the end of the half as Aston Villa try to launch a counter attack but Arsenal work back well, closing down Leandro Bacuna and hustling him off the ball.

Liam McColgan:, external Every single game Ozil gets slated for doing nothing. Every single game he then comes up with a magical pass from nowhere.

Luke:, external Arsenal defensively sound and great going forward, something that City and Chelsea can't seem to get in unison. Still doubted.

Mathew Penistone:, external I agree with the comment on Arsenal being one dimensional (see 2032). Too many goals with left feet! COYG.

  9. Postpublished at 20:44 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2014

Robbie Savage says on Radio 5 live that it looks like Arsenal are 'playing a Championship side' at the moment. I'm sure there will be fans of some Championship sides who are not happy with that comparison as the Gunners are given the freedom of Villa Park to pop the ball around at will. Not many tackles coming in.

  10. Postpublished at 20:42 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2014

Christian Benteke is a ghost of the man who terrorised the Premier League this time last year. As he fails to control a ball into him he just watches it bounce away and doesn't even chase it. What has gone wrong?

  11. BAKER UPDATEpublished at 20:41 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2014

Aston Villa:, external Nathan Baker has mild concussion. Not serious.

Good news. The Villa defender was taken off on a stretcher earlier (see 2020) after taking a whack in the face but he has not gone to hospital.

    Premier League

Those goals have put Arsenal back on top of the table as it stands, the Gunners sitting pretty as we approach a delayed half-time. I reckon that there are at least 10 minutes of playing time left after that lengthy stoppage.

  13. Postpublished at 20:38 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2014

BBC Sport chief football writer Phil McNulty at Villa Park

"There has been an air of resignation around Villa Park pretty much from the kick-off and two Arsenal goals within 59 seconds will not make these unhappy supporters feel any better. Arsenal have been dominant - Villa so timid."

  14. Postpublished at 20:37 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2014

    Robbie Savage
BBC Radio 5 live at Villa Park

"The heads of the Aston Villa players could go down now. It will take courage for them to take control of the ball now. I saw Villa come back at West Brom - but I don't think they can do that tonight. It is flat."

  15. Postpublished at 20:37 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2014

What a stunning minute of football that was, that was Arsenal at their best. Can Villa come back from this?

Wow! The old one-two has Villa on the canvas.

Villa are their own worst enemies here, losing the ball cheaply from kick-off, Jack Wilshere plays another incisive pass through the middle, Olivier Giroud takes a touch to bring it under his spell and then thumps home left-footed from 12 yards. Villa Park is in a state of shock.

    Robbie Savage
BBC Radio 5 live at Villa Park

"The right-back switched off when he allowed Monreal to run past him. What a cool finish from Wilshere. That's what this Arsenal team can do to you. Before that Aston Villa looked as comfortable as they had all game."

Ah, Mesut Ozil going off the ball? No chance.

The German plays a delicious pass through the Villa defence, sending Nacho Monreal free in behind Matt Lowton, he cuts it back and Jack Wilshere slots it home left-footed. Fine finish.

Shane Daly:, external You could have 20 claret and blue shirts behind the ball Arsenal will still find a gap.

Elliott Fulton:, external Without Ramsey's goals from midfield and Walcott's pace this Arsenal team is too one dimensional to win a title.

  20. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20:32 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2014

Villa are set up to play on the counter now, and it doesn't get any simpler than this. Matt Lowton looks up and whips a long ball down the line for Gabby Agbonlahor to chase, and chase he does, nipping the ball away from Nacho Monreal who goes into the book.

Agbonlahor - Fastest man in the Premier League?
