Tom Lee:, external Fancy Benteke to bag one or two tonight. Arsenal too comfortable and he has to start firing soon.

Luke Wild:, external I reckon the Ballon d'Or selectors choose the team on FIFA 14 ratings #clueless

Frank Madsen:, external If you are not a fashionable player playing for famous clubs you ain't got a chance. It's all glitter and no grafter got a chance.

  2. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20:04 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2014

Karim El Ahmadi was actually booked for that foul on Jack Wilshere - a yellow inside 90 seconds. That's put him under pressure early doors, as well as given him a pesky fine. What's the going rate for a booking these days? It used to be £8 I think when I was a lad.

  3. Postpublished at 20:03 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2014

Karim El Ahmadi flattens Jack Wilshere with a late challenge before Nathan Baker scuffs a clearance behind for an early corner for Arsenal. Fluent start from the Gunners.

  4. KICK-OFFpublished at 20:00 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2014

We are off and running at Villa Park. Villa have only scored seven goals here all season...

BBC Sport chief football writer Phil McNulty at Villa Park

"Plenty of empty seats around Villa Park as kick-off time approaches. Fair to say Aston Villa's fans will want a lot better than what they have seen from their team so far this season - and they will need to produce it to trouble Arsenal."

Here we go then! Fatboy Slim pumps out of the speakers, as it probably did back in 1998, the last time Villa beat Arsenal at home. The away end sounds in particularly fine voice...

Ron Vlaar looks in relaxed mood as he lines up his Villa team-mates in the tunnel, while Arsenal hover menacingly at the top of the steps. Per Mertesacker goes through a fearsome stretching routine as he waits for his tardy team-mates.

BBC Sport chief football writer Phil McNulty at Villa Park

"Teenager Serge Gnabry was impressive in Arsenal's FA Cup third round win against Spurs - drawing high praise from manager Arsene Wenger - and he gets his chance again with Theo Walcott beginning that long spell on the sidelines with knee ligament damage. Olivier Giroud is also back after missing the Spurs game through illness."

Sean: How Alves, Ramos, Xavi and even Iniesta got in ahead of Baines, Kompany, Toure and Ozil is beyond me. Does anyone at Fifa watch the Premier League?

Aston Villa's 3-1 win at the Emirates seems a long time ago doesn't it? The natives were revolting after Paul Lambert's side picked them off in a textbook away performance. That was before Aaron Ramsey started scoring goals, before Mesut Ozil signed for the Gunners and when Christian Benteke was one of the most feared strikers in the division.

The big Belgian scored a brace on that August afternoon but the well has run dry since. He's scored just three times since, and is without a goal at all since September.

Where did it all go wrong?

Peter Ratcliffe: , external I watch the Premier League, unlike the Ballon d'Or selectors who obviously don't. Zabaleta, Mertesacker and Toure should be in the team.

  13. RETURN OF THE OXpublished at 19:42 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2014

Arsenal fans will be delighted to see Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain back on the bench tonight. The England man has been out of action since the defeat to Villa in August, when he picked up a knee injury.

With him back and Serge Gnabry showing some neat touches, perhaps the loss of Theo Walcott won't hit the Gunners too hard after all.

Yaya Toure would get in any team I was in charge of picking. If only because I would be too scared to ever tell him he wasn't...

Rian Hoskins:, external Kompany should be in ahead of Ramos while Yaya Toure deserved to be ahead of Xavi. Ozil and Suarez had strong claims as well.

SathyaJames:, external Ozil had a far better 2013 than, say, Xavi. If he was still playing for Madrid he'd be in the team.

Stephan Rasp:, external I really feel Toure should have gotten in the team instead of one of the Barca players.

  16. WHO VOTED FOR WHO?published at 19:32 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2014

Unsurprisingly most of the chosen few who voted for the Ballon d'Or went for Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi, but there were a few shouts for some of 'our' boys in the Premier League.

Mesut Ozil got a few votes, as did Gareth Bale - who used to play for Spurs of course. After that, there's a few for Yaya Toure and Luis Suarez but not one for Roger Johnson. Cruel.

You can check out the list here., external Some fine tactical voting from Cristiano Ronaldo, who decided not to nominate Messi or Franck Ribery, and Lionel also left out his rivals....

  17. GET INVOLVEDpublished at 19:26 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2014

For the second year running, there were no Premier League players in the Fifa World XI. But should there have been? Do Mr Toure, Mr Suarez, Mr Rooney and Mr Baines to name but four have a case? Will we see more in next year?

Mount the case for the Premier League please. Who should have made it? Who are the real 'world class' talents gracing our grounds?

BBC Sport chief football writer Phil McNulty at Villa Park

"Arsenal hope to go back to the top of the Premier League with victory here at Villa Park tonight - and it has certainly been profitable territory for them in the past.

"Vila have failed to beat Arsenal at home in 14 attempts stretching back to December 1998 and how fortunes have changed since Paul Lambert's side won 3-1 at The Emirates on this season's opening day.

"Arsenal are in prime form but Villa felt the anger of their own fans when they were knocked out of the FA Cup third round at home to League One Sheffield United. They have some making up to do."

  19. Postpublished at 19:22 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2014

For hosts Villa, it may be looking reasonably pretty as they sit in 11th place but they are just five points above the drop zone and have scored a measly 19 goals all season. Can they pick up a rare home win tonight?
