Mike, Leigh-on-Sea: I was 18 at the time. Now watching with my 13-year-old daughter. She doesn't know the score, so I am vicariously reliving the tension through her!
Germany are shaken here! Slack stuff at the back allows Peter Beardsley onto the ball, he finds Paul Gascoigne who gets a shot off. It's well blocked, but England all over the favourites...
Chrissy Waddle has chopped the mullet clean off!
Why would you do that?
Trevor Brooking
Former England midfielder
"Excellent start by England. As a player you always like to have a few early touches and to have had three corners in succession like that was excellent."
Mark Wright steps out of defence, the spare man in a back three. And he finds Peter Beardsley with a lovely through-pass, Beardsley is onside but he runs out of steam. What a fine start - high tempo.
What a start from England! They win a corner inside the first 20 seconds, and from Peter Beardsley's delivery the ball drops out to Paul Gascoigne on the edge of the box.
His left-footed strike was going just wide, but Bodo Illgner has to make a flying save!
Sean, London: As an eight-year-old with a German father and an English mother, I have the feeling the result of this game will shape my footballing bias for the rest of my life.
Under way...
Nick:, external The last 'good' England team. Eat your heart out Lampard, Gerrard, Cahill, Jagielka, Jones, Smalling, Hart, Johnson, Rooney, Sturridge, Milner etc. None of you would have got into that team!
Steve:, external We would have a great chance in Brazil with that side! Italia 90, what a roller coaster ride of a tournament, epic.
England in white today by the way - West Germany in a natty green affair. England of course had red shirts in 1966 - is that an omen?
'Come on lads!' bellows England skipper Terry Butcher.
It's now or never. Do England believe?
World Cup Grandstand commentator John Motson in Turin
"The England supporters inside the stadium number only four thousand, which may not sound very much but in fact the FA were given only two or three thousand and had to fight for that allocation. The English fans are vastly outnumbered by some 40,000 West Germans who have travelled the short distance from the team's previous base in Milan."
England fans may be outnumbered, but they have no trouble making themselves heard during the German anthem - it's awash with jeers and boos.
That's not great to see - but the England anthem gets the same treatment from the German masses....
World Cup Grandstand commentator John Motson in Turin
"The streets back home are deserted, the street parties have begun..."
Andy:, external Waddle, Gascoigne, Platt, Lineker, Beardsley. Outrageous front five.
Phil:, external Nice of Des to keep reminding Robson that he's missing the biggest match of his life!
Here we go then - the players are in the tunnel, Motty on the mic, here we go!
It's worth noting that the FA received just 2,000 tickets for today's game. Of course, there will be many more than that in the stands but England are set to be vastly outnumbered all the same.
Sing up lads, you could be drowned out...
Samad:, external Some of these haircuts are making me glad I was born the next year!
Jamie:, external Fantastic punditry. Clean, simple and to the point. Bring back Des.
Trevor Brooking. An absolute Adonis.
