"I feel Ecuador have deserved it. I have been slightly disappointed with Switzerland. They have got in some good positions but they have not threatened Dominguez in the Ecuador goal. For me, without doing anything spectacular, Ecuador thoroughly deserve their lead."
The fourth official lifts up that mammoth electronic board to signal one minute of injury time. But the Swiss don't have chance to dig out an equaliser as Ecuador finish on the front foot. So far so good for the South Americans.
Ecuador's attacking raids have slowed down in the past 15 minutes or so, but now they come roaring back. Swiss centre-half Johan Djourou brilliantly blocks as the livewire Jefferson Montero looks to pounce, before Ricardo Rodriguez sticks a toe in to dispossess Felipe Caicedo.
Were we really talking up Xherdan Shaqiri earlier? If we were then it wasn't for his dead-ball ability. Again, the big men from the back trot forward for a set-piece. Again, the Switzerland man blasts a free-kick over the head of everybody in the danger zone. Too many Weetabix for that lad this morning.

"There are already signs of tiredness setting in, with players taking a breather. The best thing for Ecuador is to keep this score as it is up until half-time. Then they catch their breath, regroup, take on water and go again in the second half."
If games were won on corners then the Swiss would be cruising. Ottmar Hitzfeld's men win another set-piece, but again they waste it. Xherdan Shaqiri boots one over the heads of everyone jostling for position in the Ecuador box - cue stares of disappointment from his team-mates.
Swiss captain Gokhan Inler - a man who had a 20 for 'long shots' on Football Manager - shows the make believe isn't too far from the reality as he smashes a thunderous shot towards the Ecuadorian goal. It dips and swerves towards the far post, which forces Ecuador keeper Alexander Dominguez to scamper across his goal and push clear with his fingertips.

"Dominguez may just be one of those comedian goalkeepers who decides to stop everything on the line but if he goes on and keeps out Switzerland, no-one will be complaining.
"Lichtsteiner and Shaqiri are causing problems down the right. They don't call Lichtsteiner Forrest Gump for nothing, he will run all day that boy. He is not great defensively but getting forward, he can do that all day."
Switzerland knocking heavily on the Ecuadorian door now. Marauding right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner skips into the penalty box to win another the fifth corner of the first half for his team.
Valeron Behrami - the former West Ham player with a penchant for hair bleach - lurks menacingly at the back post to pick up Xherdan Shaqiri's deep delivery, but it is an easy gather for Ecuador keeper Alexander Dominguez.
Ecuador striker Enner Valencia has scored in each of his last five appearances for his country.
Switzerland win another corner and go back to the old 'lump it straight into the box' routine. And it almost pays dividends as midfielder Valentin Stocker meets the delivery at the front post with a bullet header. But, unfortunately for the Swiss, the ball flies past the wrong side of the post.
Ben:, external That free kick from Ecuador is an example of the vanishing spray not working. Ball clearly away from where it's placed.
Deletsu:, external There were two or three unmarked Ecuador players in the box there. The Swiss defence just went to sleep!
Shane:, external Goals goals goals, if anyone asks "How's this World Cup so far?" just reply with "Goals galore."
What response can Switzerland muster? Well, they win a corner moments later, but Xherdan Shaqiri and Stephan Lichtsteiner get themselves into a muddle as their set-piece routine falls down.

"I asked for a good delivery and it was a fantastic one - right into the heart of the six-yard box. The marking was dreadful, where were the Swiss centre-halves? But it was a good header and great start for Ecuador.
"Just seeing the replay now and the marking was truly dreadful. Absolutely dreadful. I think Johan Djourou was his man. A simple goal for Ecuador."
Yes they can! Walter Ayovi swings a peach of a free-kick right down the corridor of uncertainty and Enner Valencia is on hand to thump in a close-range header. Not sure what Swiss keeper Diego Benaglio is up to - he was stood behind his goalline when the Ecuador striker put his noggin on the ball. Strange.
Promising opportunity for Ecuador. Antonio Valencia wins a free-kick close to the left touchline after he is wrestled to the ground by Swiss right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner. Can they take advantage?
Rush of blood to the head for Switzerland keeper Diego Benaglio, who races from his goalline to unconvincingly punch clear Antonio Valencia's deflected ballooner. The Wolfsburg man gets a few icy stares from his team-mates, but gets away with it.

"Shaqiri does that really well, he plays on the right predominantly and he can cut inside and shoot with his left foot, we have seen him do that for Bayern Munich. He has been one of Switzerland's main threats in these early stages and it was a good effort, but comfortable save."
Swiss star man Xherdan Shaqiri can't shift Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery out of the Bayern Munich team, but there is no shame in that. However, he is the main man in this Swiss side and we get our first glimpse of the stocky winger as he cuts inside to send a low effort trundling into the grateful hands of Ecuador keeper Alexander Dominguez.
