George Davis:, external I think the French have definitely decided to turn up to this World Cup!

Ivan Interest:, external France looking entertaining? England out? Is it 1998 again?

Jase AU:, external And I was just thinking, "there's a little bit of a goal shortage in the last few games." BANG.

Switzerland look absolute shell-shocked - there were just 66 seconds between the two French goals. Veteran coach Ottmar Hitzfeld shakes his head in disbelief on the touchline. He masterminded a revival against Ecuador - but this would be better than Gary Barlow's comeback...

"There was no time between those two goals and the roof is falling off here! The defence was awful, but what was the keeper doing? The ball was stupidly given away in midfield, but to be beaten at the near post is awful."

Oh dear Switzerland. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. Velon Behrami - the bleach blond midfielder of West Ham fame - sloppily gives away possession straight from the kick-off. France charge forward, sensing blood, and they get it as Paris St-Germain midfielder Blaise Matuidi blasts in the second. Game over for Switzerland?

Now Olivier Giroud is smiling! After winning a corner for the French, the big man delivers with a textbook header. Advantage France.

Neither side has managed to get going yet. Olivier Giroud looks to the heavens, mumbling something probably not repeatable, after another France move breaks down.

Ambitious from Yohan Cabaye. We are used to seeing the France midfielder make the spectacular look unspectacular, but he shoots wildly over the Swiss goal from distance. No danger.

Steven McNamara:, external France have a chance, with the class of Cabaye, Benzema, I would have started Remy over Giroud though, much better player.

"All you are concerned about in that situation is not having a broken nose or a broken cheekbone, because if you do then you won't play in the rest of the tournament."

Swiss defender Steve Von Bergen looks to be in a world of trouble. He is clattered by Yohan Cabaye's stray boot, causing blood to pour from a gaping wound. He looks dazed and confused, rather like George Groves after his fight with Carl Froch.

His afternoon is over before it has barely started, going off to be replaced by new Aston Villa defender Philippe Senderos. Senderos and his ex-Arsenal team-mate Johan Djourou reunited at the back. Is that the sound of groans I can hear from North London?

France begin to settle down, with right-back Mathieu Debuchy bombing on into the Swiss box. Could be chances galore down that side of the pitch if Rodriguez and Debuchy both continue to go gung-ho.

Then, France get their first glance at goal. Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema looks to add to the two he bagged against Honduras, curling just wide from 20 yards. Benzema for the Golden Boot?

Switzerland enjoy some early possession with left-back Ricardo Rodriguez, who delivered two assists in the opening game against Ecuador, rampaging forward early doors. Keen as mustard that lad.

"It's very, very tight to call. Switzerland were my call as the surprise team before the tournament but they should not be a surprise given their Fifa ranking. They are really tough to break down, but Karim Benzema is a big player for France."

Anthems - done. Pennants exchange - done. That means only one thing left - and that's referee Bjorn Kuipers blowing his whistle for the first time. The Dutchman does that successfully and we're under way.

Salvador has seen plenty of goals so far, with the Arena Fonte Nova hosted Spain's 5-1 mauling against the Netherlands, as well as Germany's 4-0 thumping of Portugal. I'd take 5-5 thriller today.

France captain Hugo Lloris says the French squad's infamous strike at South Africa 2010 is long forgotten. Even Patrice Evra, one of the main antagonists against Domenech, joked he is not used to such a friendly atmosphere in the French squad.

"We don't have what happened in 2010 in mind, we're really focused on this tournament. What happened in 2010 belongs in the past," says Spurs keeper Lloris.

"We're here to live an adventure for as long as possible with the best results possible. We'll have to show what we can do and put in a great performance in order to win."
