"It was a remarkable finish. In general, Argentina's big name individuals haven't really turned up yet. It was a game where they needed penalty box presence and Gonzalo Higuain was poor.

"Sergio Aguero was frustrating, Angel Di Maria the same, but then, the one moment. Everyone who was in that stadium will carry away from there a memory of an extraordinary goal."

"It's just that little half a yard and he gets the whip, the bend and the power. A spectacular piece of individual brilliance."

    David Ornstein
    BBC Sport at Estadio Mineirao

"Estadio Mineirao exploded to the noise of Argentina fans celebrating a goal that knocked the stuffing out of every one of Iran's players, staff and fans. The scenes of unbridled blue and white joy could not have contrasted more sharply with the absolute desolation of the men in red.

"A number of Iran players dropped to their knees in disbelief, their substitutes looked in total shock, their followers fell silent for the first time all day. What a moment and how cruel football can be."

"You know what he's going to do, take a step and curl it, but there's nothing the magnificent Iranians can do. It is just world class."

    Wow!

What a goal from Lionel Messi! Again, he's hardly been in the game. Again, he wins the game with a wonderful hit!

He gets the ball just outside of the box, there are six or seven red shirts around him but he bends a beauty into the top corner. Goalkeeper had no chance.

A cruel blow for Iran. But a beautifully delivered one...
