"Belgium will be absolutely delighted with victory - that is qualification for them. They will go through to the knockout stages but if they have any ambition to go further they will have to step up their game massively.

"One shot on goal, against an organised Russia team, and they scored, but that is not the whole story. Eden Hazard did not look like he wanted to be here in the slightest. We were all excited about seeing this Belgium side but so far they have been underwhelming.

"Hazard has been named man of the match? Well I think whoever decided that has been enjoying the hospitality a little too much. I must have been watching a different game."

"Everything is different after the first goal. The mindset is different from both teams. It was much livelier at the end and Eden Hazard was the one knocking on the door when it came to scoring."

Shohidur Rahman:, external Belgium had their first shot on target in the 88th minute and it was the winner. Awful performance but important win.

    Group G and Group H

This is how it stands in Group G and Group H. Belgium are in complete control of Group H, and can only be denied top spot if either South Korea or Algeria win both of their remaining games.

Belgium are likely to meet either USA, Ghana or Portugal in the second round. Germany are looking like becoming the Group G winners and they will probably play either South Korea, Russia or Algeria in the last 16.

South Korea v Algeria is the next match on (20:00 BST), and there is now a huge chance for one of their teams to take a big step towards the next round.

"Fabio Capello will be very disappointed. Russia have been organised but a lapse in concentration has cost them. Russia could have had a penalty and they definitely should have gone 1-0 up through Alexander Kokorin before half-time.

"The scoreline sums up the whole game - apart from the goal nothing really has happened. But the Belgian fans have really supported their team in numbers, everywhere you go in Brazil there are masses of them."

"In the last 10 minutes Belgium came alive, or Hazard did, they were slightly fortunate but the sign of a decent team is when you don't play well and getting the result.

"The manager deserves a lot of credit. His substitutes, again, helped him get the result. I am sure they can play better."

It is all over at the Maracana. Belgium move into the last 16, but it was a far from convincing performance from them.

For the second game running, Marc Wilmots's substitutions prove crucial.

For Fabio Capello's Russia, they now only have one point from two games. They still have a chance of qualifying, but need to beat Algeria in the final match to have any hope.

Eden Hazard plays it through to Kevin Mirallas, who has a chance to make it 2-0, but is denied by Igor Akinfeev.

"The first time anyone has gone in behind the Russia defence, Eden Hazard, got to the bye-line and cut it back for Divock Origi to fire into the roof of the net.

"It is unbelievable that it has taken this long for Belgium to have a decent strike on goal. Finally we have something to talk about.

"On the balance of play Belgium do not deserve it, but Marc Wilmots will say we have six points from two games, we are growing into this tournament. But they have been poor. They will not go far."

Three minutes left and Belgium take the lead. Eden Hazard came close just before, and sets up Divock Origi, who scores from eight yards out.

It was excellent play from Hazard who got to the dead-ball line, pulled the ball back to find substitute Origi in space and the teenager drilled it into the roof of the net.

Eden Hazard has taken some criticism throughout this match as he has struggled to get involved. But the Chelsea playmaker finally shows his class with five minutes to go. He jinks on the edge of the penalty area to find some space.

However, the goal-bound shot bounces off a defender for a corner. Marouane Fellaini heads over from the set-piece.

"Looking at the positions he is taking today, Marouane Fellaini is doing no better than he does for Manchester United. He has to get involved in the build-up more. The ball to Fellaini seems to be their weapon."

"Really unlucky from Kevin Mirallas, the Russia goalkeeper looked to have lined his wall up on the wrong side almost, I'm not sure how Mirallas's shot came through.

"But boos and jeers have been ringing around the stadium, the fans have been really let down by this game. What a fantastic venue, in the centre of Rio, overlooked by Christ the Redeemer, but he would be completely disinterest in this game.

"Finally Belgium have tried something a little different in pushing up Marouane Fellaini towards the box, but maybe it is too little too late. I cannot understand why Belgium have not gone out to win this game because Russia have just been sitting back."

Mo from Manchester on text: This Belgium manager is clueless. There is no flow in midfield and nothing is being produced for the striker, so substituting your striker doesn't make any sense.
