"It's incredible really that Brazil have had two unbelievably good right-backs at the same time. Dani Alves is good going forward but has been giving the ball away on too many occasions. It's a big call from Luiz Felipe Scolari to call in Maicon as a replacement.
"When Maricon was at Manchester City he looked a bit heavy at times, his form was patchy, but he's improved at Roma and maybe Scolari has chosen him for a slightly more defensive option."
Chris Baldwin:, external "I'd have dropped Fred, played Neymar through the middle and started Bernard from the left. He looks a real talent."
Ian Taylor:, external "Surprised at the Brazilian team news - Maicon in, Alves out."
Dr Holmes:, external "As much as I like Brazil, I wish Colombia win today. Neymar is great but James Rodriguez is special!"

South American football expert Tim Vickery: "This is the one game for which Brazil would not have wanted to lose Luiz Gustavo. Fernandinho replaces him but holding midfield is not his natural position and that may well leave space for Colombia's James Rodriguez.
"Juan Cuadrado scored from a Rodriguez pass the last time the two teams met, in a 1-1 draw in 2012, and what a match-up it will be to see him against Marcelo on the Brazil left.
"Down the other end Brazil will look to expose centre-back Mario Yepes by playing diagonal balls up to Hulk, who can cut in and run at him from the right."

Is that a fair swap...?
Image source, BBC brasilBBC Brasil reports from outside Castelao stadium, in Fortaleza: "A group of Brazilian fans carry a life-size image of Colombian singer Shakira dressed in the Brazilian shirt and shout: 'A-ha, u-hu, Shakira is Brazilian!'
"Some Colombian fans were heard answering back: 'You can take Shakira. We will have the Cup!'"
Kevin in Hornchurch, via text: "Firework night. Xmas. New Years night. All in one. Bring it on Brazil and Colombia. 5-2 Brazil. Neymar hat trick."
Luke Almeida via text: "Colombia's only good players are Rodriguez and Cuadrado. Look at the Brazil team. 3-1 Brazil."
What an ovation!
Goalkeepers coming out to warm up are usually greeted with, at best, a polite ripple of applause akin to, say, a cover drive for four at a county cricket match.
Not tonight. Brazil number one Julio Cesar gets 50-odd thousand people in a frenzy as the Estadio Castelao comes to life. He looks a bit sheepish as he takes his place between the sticks. He did put them here I guess, with some key saves in the shootout win over Chile...

Image source, Getty Images"The 2014 model Brazil may battle their way through the rounds and go on to win the World Cup but they will surely not be remembered all around the world with the same affection of their predecessors from 1982, who did not even reach the semi-finals. Why not?
"The dependence on Neymar is clear. The rest seem to have been relegated to supporting cast."
More people (16%) voted for Colombia to win the World Cup than Brazil (15%) this afternoon, as we asked for your votes online and on BBC One.
This Brazil side scraped past Chile on penalties in the last round. They clearly have some talented players, but there are issues too...
Daniel Lipman:, external "The lack of a true holding midfielder ie. Luiz Gustavo will cost Brazil. James will find space between the lines and run the game."
Isaac Manda:, external "If Brazil were to win this World Cup they'd be the worst team ever to do so. I hope they don't."
Zach Kingsbury:, external "Is it wrong that I can see Brazil losing relatively comfortably tonight?"

Brazilian number 10 Neymar has been excellent again - as he was during last summer's Confederations Cup - but centre-forward options Fred and Jo are not up to much, while Brazil have looked shaky at the back at times.
However, it is perhaps in central midfield where they have struggled the most.
"There is no midfield," wrote 1970 great Tostao after the Chile game, "because, as well as lacking an exceptional playmaker, Luiz Gustavo [suspended against Colombia] stays close to the centre-backs, Neymar stays close to Fred and Oscar and Hulk are thrown wide.
"Fernandinho, or whoever plays there, is left isolated, like Robinson Crusoe, looking upwards, watching the ball as it sails over him."
They're the perfect 10s and two of the stars of this World Cup. Tonight Neymar and James Rodriguez come head to head, but who would you rather have in your team?

Two passionate, colourful and vocal South American nations going head-to-head. The sea of yellow in the crowd will be a sight to behold."

South American football expert Tim Vickery: "It will be a fabulous game because you can see where both sides can hurt the other, but tradition plays such a big role in these parts.
"Colombia haven't beaten Brazil in 20 years and they've only ever beaten them twice. It will be the greatest achievement in Colombian football history if they can win today.
"Based on tradition, and on the tendency for their big players to come out at decisive moments, Brazil will consider themselves favourites."
BBC Sport Chief Football Writer Phil McNulty in Fortaleza
"Today's two coaches could not be more contrasting. Brazil's Luiz Felipe Scolari gave an explosive final media briefing here in Fortaleza yesterday when he rounded on his critics, claiming they "can go to hell" if they don't like his methods.
"The pressure on a Brazil coach to deliver the World Cup when it is played in Brazil is fierce - but Scolari has never been one to hide behind the door in the face of criticism.
"The grey-haired and vastly experienced Jose Pekerman leads Colombia. Quietly spoken and understated, he has guided this very dangerous side into the last eight despite being without the country's great sporting talisman, injured striker Radamel Falcao."

So the Waddler is keeping faith with Brazil, but what do you think?
How good is this Brazil side? Are they good enough to win the World Cup? Which is the best Brazilian side you have seen, and why?

My personal favourite was the 1998 side. Rivaldo, Ronaldo, Bebeto, Carlos, Cafu...
