    Just before the flight attendant told him to turn off his all electronic devices, Netherlands defender Ron Vlaar expresses his pride at his country's efforts at the World Cup.

    He says on Twitter:, external "In the plane, waiting to go back to #Holland. Going home. #Brazil has been a great experience, with more than football. I'm so proud of this team! Not only the players but also all the staff. We made this possible together. Thanks."

    Van Gaal, who leaves after two years as Netherlands coach, says he will do so with good memories.

    "There will always be a place in my heart for these 23 players and my staff," he says. "I have top staff. They are great people. My players were even better. It was a great group."

    Departing Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal, meanwhile, says his Manchester United players must find the same unity as the Dutch squad had at the World Cup.

    Van Gaal, 62, starts his new role at Old Trafford next week, and says: "I hope the group in Manchester will become like this one. We have to sing from the same hymn sheet."

    Luiz Felipe Scolari says he will leave the decision as to whether he continues as Brazil manager to the president of the country's football association.

    Brazil's World Cup ended in a 3-0 defeat by the Netherlands in Saturday's third-place play-off, four days on from their 7-1 semi-final loss to Germany. "It is up to the president to decide," says Scolari.
