BBC Sport's Simon Stone: "Manchester United will lose a link with home if Danny Welbeck completes his £16m move to Arsenal.

"For Longsight-born Welbeck is the only Mancunian remaining amongst the senior players in the United first-team squad.

"Welbeck caught the attention of club scouts when he was just six years old and joined their academy when he was eight.

"Since then, Nicky Butt has joined Newcastle - by true definition the remainder of the Class of 92 are not Mancunians - and Wes Brown has moved to Sunderland."

Current Preston forward Kevin Davies: "If you have a wife or children in school then you have to carefully consider a move. I have an understanding and intelligent wife. She asked me to do what I wanted to do towards the latter half of my career.

"When you're playing and happy then you don't see a reason to leave. You want your phone to be ringing on deadline day when you're not involved with the team. You want to be playing football and want to play as many games as you can.

"A new guy can come in and you can be out of favour - you have to be ready to drop everything."
