  1. Post update

The late(r) games are just about to kick off but we are calling it a night here.

You can keep across the live scores here. Enjoy and good night.

  2. Join the debate at #bbcfootball

Jon Hitching: Every team needs to win ugly sometime, even if it's really, really, really, really ugly.

Nick Southwell: A potential banana skin avoided. Not the greatest of games but nine points from nine. We definitely shouldn't be complaining.

Gary Miles: The tip of the diamond is blunt and pointless. A diamond formation is OK but Rooney is a problem...

  3. Post update

    Luxembourg v Spain (19:45 BST)

Big news from Spain where goalkeeper Iker Casillas has been dropped after a list of high-profile errors. Manchester United's David de Gea is in nets for the national side.

  4. Text us on 81111

Will Binks: Bobby Charlton played in a World Cup winning team, whereas Rooney has had to play alongside the likes of Stewart Downing and Stephen Warnock, yet still kept up his scoring. England legend.

Kane in Shrewsbury: So much negativity. Potential three wins from three. Spain, Germany, Portugal etc would love that. Wish the unpatriotic moaners would give it a rest.

  5. Sitting pretty

    Estonia 0-1 England

    Griup E

England are on top of Group E with maximum points from three games. Switzerland, by the way, next play San Marino away on Tuesday night.

  6. Get involved on Facebook

Shaun Robinson: A win's a win and maximum points from three games. Can't ask for much more really.

Jake Seabrook: I thought Calum Chambers struggled today to be honest. Pretty boring game overall.

Ian Cantrill: Should score more Rooney today but he done his job and scored the winner! Three wins out of three. Four wins in a row for the first time in five years.

  7. What's next?

    Estonia 0-1 England

Bored by those last two games? Well there are two more games coming up for England next month.

First is a qualifier against Slovenia on Saturday 15 November before a friendly with Scotland on Tuesday 18 November. That should at least be fiery...

  8. Post update

    Estonia 0-1 England

    Danny Mills

Former England full-back on 6-0-6 on 5 live

"Wayne Rooney is still a very high-quality player. He may be lacking confidence, but tonight when his moment came he scored. And with Daniel Sturridge not there, you have to rely on Rooney to score your goals."

  9. Manager reaction

    Estonia 0-1 England

England manager Roy Hodgson: "It was hard work. We played well in the first half without taking our chances and that meant that there was an air of frustration setting in. Everyone was aware that when you have played well you have to take at least one chance. Luckily we did that in the second half and it's four wins in a row which is not to be sniffed at.

"We were going to put Rickie Lambert on but we were discussing which player would come off. It was more likely to be Danny Welbeck. It was a good free-kick from Wayne but it was a frustrating night for him. He scored the winner and we go away with three more points.

"We realise that Estonia will cause other teams problems here."

    Roy Hodgson
  10. Post update

    Danny Mills

Former England full-back on 6-0-6 on 5 live

"The final ball wasn't good enough. Is Wayne Rooney still our best player, and why is it we seem to struggle against these so-called lesser nations?

"As far as Raheem Sterling, I'd want to play every international game I could at this stage. I don't really believe a player his age will have gone to the manager and old him he's tired. Has there been influence from elsewhere? The club manager, for example? Who knows."

  11. Post update

    Estonia 0-1 England

Goals from midfield is an issue for England now. James Milner has one, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain three and Andros Townsend two. That's it from the midfielders in the current squad.

  12. Join the debate at #bbcfootball

Richard Priseman: Why are people still slating Rooney? He won us the game!

Scott Kelly: Too reliant on Rooney, I think. With Gerrard and Lampard gone we need to ease pressure on him and goals need to come from elsewhere.

Rob Gore: Results only mean so much against these teams. It's the performances which worry, with bigger teams awaiting in France.

  13. Man of the match vote

    Jack Wilshere

We asked for your England man of the match, and Jack Wilshere has topped the vote, with 36.1% of you opting for the Arsenal midfielder.

    Thanks for voting.

  14. Post update

    Estonia 0-1 England

The enigma that is Wayne Rooney continues to divide England supporters it seems. He looks almost certain to break Sir Bobby Charlton's goalscoring record now, but would he get into an all-time England team?

  15. Player reaction

    Estonia 0-1 England

    Wayne Rooney

England captain Wayne Rooney: "We knew that's how the game would go. We know they are tough games with men behind the ball and it's tough to break them down. It's a good win. For the goal, it was close in so I was focussing on getting it over the wall.

"I've shown over the years I'm always capable of scoring goals. The keeper made a good save at the end from me. We are playing well, the pleasing thing is that we have a young team and we hung in there."

  16. Join the debate at #bbcfootball

Tom Alex Dodd: Nine points from nine, and the country simply complains. Yep, only in England.

G Alex: As much as people say Rooney isn't world-class, he is still still our best player by miles. Wilshere is the next best.

Matt Smith: I can't say England are playing amazingly, but they're getting the results!

  17. Post update

    Estonia 0-1 England

    Terry Butcher

Former England captain on 5 live

"It took something special from their captain to make sure England got the three points. Estonia displayed much more quality than San Marino, and it was England's perseverance that won the day.

"England will learn for this - not the best performance of all time and they had to work really hard to get the win. They've had three wins in this group now and they haven't conceded a goal."

  18. Post update

    Estonia 0-1 England

It wasn't pretty, in fact it was pretty boring for most of the game. But Roy Hodgson will take a win and move on. I'm sure of that.

  19. FULL-TIME

    Estonia 0-1 England

Nine points from nine. Job done.

  20. Post update

    Estonia 0-1 England

    Terry Butcher

Former England captain on 5 live

"Rooney should probably have taken that effort earlier and just smashed it. That would have been game, set and match."

  21. INJURY TIME

    Estonia 0-1 England

There are four minutes added on. England look nervy but suddenly pick a right pass to free Wayne Rooney, He's one on one, a great chance - but he shoots at goalkeeper Sergei Pareiko!

A very good save, but a big miss too.

  22. CLOSE!

    Estonia 0-1 England

Two of England's subs add some excitement! Raheem Sterling puts a defender on his backside with a drop of the shoulder and works it across to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. He then does the same, beating his man before standing up a cross which Wayne Rooney acrobatically hooks wide. Much better...

    Raheem Sterling
  23. YELLOW CARD

    Estonia 0-1 England

Cheap booking for England as Jack Wilshere rips the collar of Ilja Antonov's shirt, handing him off in midfield. England have gone backwards since scoring, but they have just three minutes to see out now.

    Jack Wilshere
  24. Post update

    Estonia 0-1 England

    Terry Butcher

Former England captain on 5 live

"I think Jack Wilshere have done very well in that central role. The hard thing is, he's played against two teams who have simply sat back. He's worked very hard and looked good in that position, and games such as this will give him a lot of confidence too."

  25. Post update

    Estonia 0-1 England

Into the last five minutes, England closing in on a third win from three qualifiers. So far, so good? Or should you expect more from the national side?

  26. Join the debate at #bbcfootball

Will Shepherd: Considering Spain and Germany lost, you have to take this right? Three points is all that matters...

Hasan: Where are the Rooney haters now ?

Mark Duffell: Cue the 'Rooney is world-class' comments and hyperbole. Let's ignore fact he's been appalling until that point.

  27. Post update

    Estonia 0-1 England

    Terry Butcher

Former England captain on 5 live

"England have gone flat, just letting Estonia have the ball and not putting them under any pressure. They need to up the intensity, because while they're not exactly hanging on England are giving Estonia some hope."

  28. Man of the match vote

We want to know who you think should be England's man of the match. Chief football writer Phil McNulty has nominated his contenders (I'd imagine it was a bit of a struggle) and you can choose between them by voting at the top of this page, or you can vote on Twitter by tweeting @bbcsport using #wilshere #lallana #cahill #rooney or #other. 29. Post update

    Estonia 0-1 England

The good, the bad, and the ugly from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. His first touch to control a pass is brilliant, his second one is poor and his third is a heavy tackle. Studs-up, he wins the ball cleanly but it's not the best tackle you've seen.

    Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

That Wayne Rooney goal means that deadlocks have been broken all across Europe, with Russia taking the lead against against Moldova through an Artyom Dzyuba penalty, only for Alexandru Epureanu to equalise.

Ukraine and Austria continue to hold one-goal leads over Macedonia and Montenegro respectively.

  31. SUBSTITUTION

    Estonia 0-1 England

Blackpool winger Sergei Zenjov comes off and is replaced by Motherwell's Henrik Ojamaa. At the same time Danny Welbeck is hooked for Rickie Lambert.

  32. Post update

    Estonia 0-1 England

It has been another so-so performance from Wayne Rooney. He missed the two clear chances in the first half and has been sloppy on the ball at times, but he has also conjured up a goal from nothing. One of England's all-time greats?

Wayne Rooney was about to be replaced by Rickie Lambert before he bent that free-kick in. Great timing.

  35. Post update

    Estonia 0-1 England

    Terry Butcher

Former England captain on 5 live

"That's game over, to be honest. That free-kick was a great opportunity - before he took his kick, Rooney took a step to the left and inspected any gaps between keeper and post. He got his effort up and over the wall and the keeper just couldn't keep it out of his near post. An excellent free-kick, very precise."

  36. GOAL

Estonia 0-1 England - Wayne Rooney

    The breakthrough!

Wayne Rooney, on his 99th cap, bends in his 43rd international goal from that free-kick. He bends it over the wall and goalkeeper Sergei Pareiko can't claw it out before it crosses the line.

"That should have been 1-0. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain missed his header and it just glanced his shoulder. A player who had been on the pitch for a little longer would have buried that chance. A good ball in again from Calum Chambers, but England need to be much more comfortable with their finishing."

  42. CLOSE!

    Estonia 0-0 England

Calum Chambers delivers a decent cross this time and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain arrives on it with pace, but can't control the header! He closed his eyes!

    Estonia 0-0 England

After 10 minutes of solid England ball Estonia have one attack - and almost scythe their way through. Henri Anier is clean through on goal but a very late offside flag calms Tallinn down.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain then beats his man and wins a corner. Is this the way through?

  44. SUBSTITUTION

Jordan Henderson is off, Raheem Sterling is on. Now then, can the one regularly exciting member of the England squad add the spark they have lacked?

    Estonia 0-0 England

BBC Sport Chief Football Writer Phil McNulty in Tallinn

"England manager Roy Hodgson spun around in disgust when a poor delivery from Adam Lallana was easily collected by Estonia keeper Sergei Parelko. It summed up what has become an increasingly frustrating night - England's end product has been so poor, indeed pretty much non-existent."

  46. Post update

    Estonia 0-0 England

Wayne Rooney, to the consternation of Peter Wood, is the latest English player to turn down a 20-yard shot. The red wall of attacks continues but still the Estonian goalkeeper is under employed.

Peter Wood: Why do England players just refuse to shoot? Numerous opportunities to have a shot at goal and we hesitate and waste it.

Andrew Smith: An hour. No shots on target for England. Not good enough.

  48. SUBSTITUTION

    Estonia 0-0 England

Not one of the most memorable hours of football. Can this change do the business? Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was impressive as a sub against San Marino and he now replaces Fabian Delph in the England midfield.

Estonia are camped in their own penalty area now. Give them a 0-0 draw and they'd be delighted.

Brilliant from Wayne Rooney to float a pass over the top, nice from Jordan Henderson to check it back across goal on the volley, but poor from Danny Welbeck as he fails to meet it for a tap-in. 54. YELLOW CARD

    Estonia 0-0 England

Jordan Henderson is now in the book for a cynical trip in midfield, and he is furious with Estonia sub Joel Lindpere. A replay shows why - there was no contact at all.

That has to be the slowest walk off the pitch after being sent off I've ever seen! Finally Ragnar Klavan leaves us, and Wayne Rooney pumps the free-kick over the bar. Estonia appear to have moved Karol Mets back into defence for now to plug the gap.

  58. RED CARD

Estonia 0-0 England - Ragnar Klavan

A big moment! Estonia captain Ragnar Klavan is sent off for a second booking after bodychecking Fabian Delph in midfield. Delph was still 40 yards from goal and there was cover, so it was a very stupid challenge indeed.

He takes an age to leave the pitch and departs to the familiar strains of 'cheerio! cheerio!' from the England fans. Big opportunity for England now.

It's not often you'll ever see England have 82% of possession away from home. But can they stick the ball in the net? Danny Welbeck does his level best with a twisty run on the left of the box, he beats his man and fires in a low cross/shot which just about bobbles away from the men in red.

Jack Wilshere then picks it up and runs with it, toe-bunging a low shot into the side-netting. Good opening that. Sergei Parejko has not had a save to make yet though.

England are keeping the ball very nicely but are lacking any real width. That's the cons of this diamond system. The pros are that they look very neat and tidy in the middle third. If I understood Roy Hodgson's post-match quotes the other night then the theory is: the longer you keep the ball and move it around, the more likely your opponents are to become tired and slipshod in the second half.

In other words, if you want your dinner now, we should have some goals after the 60-minute mark.

    Must be?! No!

Wayne Rooney should at least hit the target at the end of a slick move. Leighton Baines is sent free down the left and puts over a first-time ball to the near post, Rooney is free and looks set to apply the finish - but then misses the ball. Big opening, and Rooney clutches his head in his hands.

    Estonia 0-0 England

A moment of quality! What a ball from Jack Wilshere, spotter's badge as he clips a 25-yard pass over the heads of the Estonian backline and into Wayne Rooney's' run. Rooney has to hit it first time and does, but laces it over the top.

Tasty. Jack Wilshere stays down after a challenge in midfield before Martin Vunk leaves Jordan Henderson in a heap with an exuberant tackle. He gets away with a warning, presumably based on the fact that he has an excellent name.

Some retribution moments later as Wayne Rooney catches Karol Mets with a swinging arm as they contest a header. Mets is not the first, and won't be the last, man to spend a Tallinn evening on all fours ejecting fluid from his mouth. But I think he's OK to continue.

England put together a move with the fluency to rival Manchester City's Ladies as Adam Lallana and Calum Chambers exchange first-time passes to lead the Estonians on a merry dance across the edge of the box. Truly fine stuff, but no end product at the end of it. A free-kick is won and crossed, and Jordan Henderson has a shot well charged down.

Calum Chambers didn't have the best of nights on Thursday but this is a promising start. The Arsenal defender whips in a lovely early cross, Danny Welbeck ghosts ahead of his marker to meet it but then forgets to make contact with the ball.

    England flags in Tallinn

Estonia is the most northerly of the three Baltic states, and has linguistic ties with Finland.

Since regaining its independence with the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, Estonia has become one of the most economically successful of the European Union's newer eastern European members.

Ruled at various times during the middle ages by Denmark, the German knights of the Livonian Order, and Sweden, Estonia ended up part of the Russian Empire in the 18th century.

It experienced its first period of independence in 1918, following the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Russian Empire.

The country has unique musical and dance traditions, including a long tradition of choral singing. Look forward to hearing the anthem later...
