He was an animal tonight, Diego Costa. A wounded animal? I don't think so.
Robbie Savage

"If you've got a hamstring problem - surely you can't perform the way Diego Costa did tonight.
"You can't even get up to full tilt in a game if you're thinking about an injury like that.
"I watched him tonight and he didn't appear to show any signs of struggling."
Chelsea midfielder Felipe Luis has tweeted this picture, external from the Chelsea dressing room: Sporting 0-1 @chelseafc First victory on the @ChampionsLeague Great game! Go Blues! #CFC

"You need energy and guile and so much more in that midfield area to compete in Europe.
"City don't have that at the moment and I'm not sure where they go.
"Totti at 38 is able to sprint 20 yards through the centre of City's team and pull off a superb finish - it's quite worrying."
Tim Arstall:, external It won't steal many headlines tonight but massive away win from Birmingham and great performance from 18 year old Kobe Arthur
Andrew Hutchinson:, external shocking referee at Derby tonight, disallowed a Rams goal to award a free kick and send their GK off?! Hadn't got a clue. #dcfc
Norwich stay top of the Championship despite a surprise 1-0 home defeat to Charlton, which even the Addicks' own official twitter account admitted was 'daylight robbery.'
Nottingham Forest were frustrated by Wigan in a 0-0 draw and Watford won 2-1 at home to Brentford. Norwich, Forest and Watford are all now on 20 points.
That means that Wolves can go top tomorrow night if they beat Huddersfield.
Chelsea captain John Terry: "We had so many chances to kill it off, but it was one of those nights when it wouldn't go in and thankfully Nemanja Matic scored.
"We lost our first group game last year and went on to win the group. We had that in mind and knew we needed to win - we've put ourselves top of the group and in control again."
On his 100th Champions League game: "I'm very proud - not many players have achieved that. I've had a great and successful career and long may it continue. I'm feeling great at the moment."
With Manchester City still without a Champions League win this season, will they qualify for the next round?
Here's what some of you are saying on the BBC Sport Facebook, external page:
Michael Barnsfield, external: Roma dominated large parts of that game and should have won! FORZA ROMA
Chukwu R Bukas:, external So hard to say. I wonder what Mangala was doing on the bench.
In Group E Bayern Munich are sitting pretty on six points from two games.
Roma are next up on four, with City on one and CSKA Moscow pointless after two defeats. They are City's next opponents next month and only a win will do.
Kevin Kilbane
BBC Radio 5 live
"Chelsea have got as good a defence as anyone in the Champions League.
"They should have won by four or five goals really.
"But, overall Chelsea were comfortable at the back and that's the positive Mourinho will take from the game."
In Group G, Chelsea are top on four points after two games, with Maribor and Schalke on two apiece, and Sporting bottom on one.
Next up for Jose Mourinho's men is a visit from Maribor on Tuesday 21 October.
Tom, Manchester: City desperately missing Fernando, specifically bought for nights like these. Thought City played alright today, Yaya woke up in the second half. Clichy was very poor. Still believe we can get out of this group
Kevin Kilbane

"City are under big pressure.
"When you play open, expansive football, you need quick players. That's where ideally you'd play Mangala to get you out of trouble."
Robbie Savage

"City in Europe just don't seem to click, I don't know why.
"Tonight just goes to show that defensively, they're not strong enough. I'm surprised Manuel Pellegrini left Eliaquim Mangala out tonight."
Manchester City midfielder James Milner: "We didn't play at our best but we had a fair few chances and could have nicked it. We never played at our tempo which teams find hard to deal with.
"They are well organised and we didn't do enough."
Francesco Totti scored a great goal tonight - he made his Roma debut in the 2-0 away victory against Brescia on 28 March 1993.
That was so long ago that Shaggy was at number one with 'Oh Carolina.' Ridiculous.
Stephen, Kircubbin: Roma impressive, City not. So disappointed. Going backwards in Europe. Milner and Lampard deserve starts.
BBC Sport's Chris Osborne at Watford 2-1 Brentford: "Billy McKinlay starts his managerial career with a victory as Watford cling on to beat Brentford.
"Matej Vydra's corker of a half-volley proved to be the winner - but they needed a sharp save by Heurelho Gomes at the death to deny Jake Bidwell heading in an equaliser."
Chris, London: It's become fashionable to rag on Yaya Toure. He was one of City's best players in their last two games, but he gets all the criticism. Why not Silva or anyone else?
