On Wednesday we saw Roma's Francesco Totti and Barcelona's Xavi set new Champions League records, and another could be broken today.

Totti became the competition's oldest scorer, while Xavi's 143rd appearance is the most of any player. Tonight Cristiano Ronaldo could become the all time leading scorer in the Champions League.

He will achieve that with a hat-trick for Real Madrid against Ludogorets in Bulgaria, and you would not best against him achieving that, surely?

Bayern Munich beat CSKA Moscow in the early kick-off last night and we have an early game under way in Russia again.

Andre Villas-Boas's Zenit St Petersburg are the hosts this evening, and they are being held to a 0-0 draw with Monaco after 84 minutes.

As Liverpool fans make their way across three countries in one evening, Arsenal fans will have to make do with three tube stops.

The Gunners are at home against Turkish giants Galatasaray and are under pressure to beat the Turkish side after losing to Borussia Dortmund in their opening group game.

Gala drew with Anderlecht in their opener and would snap your hand off now for another point.

Not for the first time, Liverpool needed Steven Gerrard to step up to the oche and hit a double last time out to earn a win on their Champions League return.

Bulgaria's finest Ludogorets Razgrad were seconds away from a draw at Anfield until Gerrard slotted home a penalty that could yet prove crucial in Group B.

And it could be another tricky night this evening.

Former Swansea boss Paulo Sousa, who replaced Murat Yakin as Basel coach in the summer, has won seven of his first 10 Swiss Super League games. In form.

For any Liverpool fans collecting passport stamps, tonight is a dream game.

The Reds are in Switzerland to face Basel, with St Jakob-Park just a Mamadou Sakho defensive header away from the border with France, and an Emile Heskey touch away from Germany.

A cracking tri-nation pub crawl has been on the cards for the away fans this afternoon. So after a few Bitburgers, the odd Trois Monts all washed down with a Furgge Bock it's time for the main event.

It's three points, not three pints, on the agenda of boss Brendan Rodgers this evening.

Will he be suffering a bad head tomorrow morning?
