Billy Davies is an onlooker at Fir Park. Could the former Preston, Derby and Notts Forest boss be interested in a return to Motherwell?
Of course, Kenny Black, who has been the number two at Motherwell since 2011, does have experience of being the main man in the dugout. The 50-year-old was in charge at Airdrie United for four years.
The polite way to describe Black's style as a defender with Rangers and Hearts among others is "uncompromising". Will we see some added bite in the home ranks?
He says he is unsure if he wants to be considered for the post permanently but a good performance tonight may well whet his appetite for more.
Black certainly has some stiff competition if he does fancy it, with more than 50 applications in already.
That looks a bit 3-4-3-ish from Motherwell and Dundee United have gone all continental with a "hidden nine" or could that be interpreted as the dreaded 4-6-0?
Whatever way the visitors are lining up, manager Jackie McNamara makes six changes from the side that beat St Mirren 3-0 last Saturday. Bold stuff from the leaders.
Motherwell: Twardzik, Kerr, O'Brien, McManus, Ramsden, Ainsworth, Reid, Lasley, Vigurs, Ojamaa, Sutton. Subs: Nielsen, Carswell, Lawson, McHugh, Francis-Angol, Law, Moore.
Dundee United: Cierzniak, Spittal, Souttar, Fojut, Townsend, Paton, Rankin, Armstrong, Connolly, Erskine, Dow. Subs: Szromnik, Dillon, Butcher, Morris, Telfer, Mackay-Steven, Ciftci.
In stark contrast, Dundee United are in rude health; peering down at the rest from their lofty position. However, their form away from home has been up and down and Jackie McNamara's men are bidding to avoid a hat-trick of defeats on the road.
This is a third Friday fixture in a row for the Steelmen, who will be under the guidance of Kenny Black this evening following Stuart McCall's departure. The hosts are aiming to end a dismal losing sequence of five games in the league.
Good evening and welcome to our Friday night slice of Premiership entertainment. Managerless Motherwell welcome league leaders Dundee United to Fir Park.
