AC Milan defender Mattia De Sciglio decides to outdo his team-mate and has a shot that is even worse. It's from an angle and it's high and wide.

Has Pipo Inzaghi sent his team out with the instructions, just get your shots away no matter what?

AC Milan's Jeremy Menez lines up a kick and it's three points. Oh wait, this is football and not the rugby autumn internationals. His free-kick is horribly over the crossbar.

Inter Milan still slightly on top of possession so far.

Inter Milan defender Dodo is down on the ground with a lot of blood pouring from his face, looks like his nose. He was caught by Sulley Muntari's arm but the high-speed collision looked accidental.

Luckily he's able to walk off the pitch with the medical staff so fingers crossed no serious damage done.

Rob in Maidstone: I used to love watching Italian football in the late 90s with my brothers on a small TV crowded on a single bed on a Sunday afternoon before a roast dinner. The picture never used to be that great though being on Channel 4 at the time.

Second major chance of the game and it's Inter Milan again. Fredy Guarin lines one up from 25 yards, it's got plenty of power but it's straight at Diego Lopez, who gathers it at the second attempt.

Dan: This AC Milan side is like a weird collection of young talent and European football's outcasts.

Inter Milan should be ahead. Sulley Muntari gives the ball straight to Mauro Icardi in the centre circle, the Argentine goes on a run and should make it 1-0 but Diego Lopez comes out to smother his shot.

Unbelievably bad play from Muntari there. What was he thinking?

  8. Postpublished at 19:53 Greenwich Mean Time 23 November 2014

Both clubs have started positively, trying to get forward when they can.

AC Milan have a corner now, but they go short and the chance comes to nothing.

Early indications give me hope of seeing a few goals.

Ross in London: To be brutally honest at the moment how can we slate off the Italian league when the Premier League isn't much better, one good side running away with the league in each league and none doing that great in Europe either. The Prem will be like Serie A in a few years, so the Milans would probably be top six if in the Prem. Premier League is massively overrated at the moment.

Bert: I remember growing up as a football mad kid being mesmerised by the AC Milan sides of the late 80s, early 90s. Seeing them now and how far they've fallen from grace is heartbreaking.

  10. FREE-KICK APPEALpublished at 19:48 Greenwich Mean Time 23 November 2014

Inter Milan should have a free-kick just outside the box within 40 seconds as Philippe Mexes tugs Rodrigo Palacio down to the ground. Referee Marco Guida is not interested - but that's the wrong call.

  11. KICK-OFFpublished at 19:47 Greenwich Mean Time 23 November 2014

We are under way at the San Siro - which of course is the home of both sides.

The 213th meeting between these rivals.

We've had our handshakes - almost time to go. A lot of photographers swarming around - Roberto Mancini getting plenty of attention.

Almost time to go. Let's do this.

Mike Ball: If they were competing in the Premier League they would both be top 6 as the television and sponsorship cash would enable them to compete. Currently both would probably finish mid table with the players they have.

Ross in Kent: I've barely heard of any of those players for Milan or Inter, times have changed in Italian football in the last 10 years, most average Premier League teams would fancy their chances against either team.

Michael McDougall: Italian football is dead, no-one wants to play there anymore hence why they only have Juventus and Roma with a team of decent players. The others have a few but nothing like it used to be. Everyone wants to play for Bayern Munich, PSG, Barcelona, Real Madrid or the top four English teams - Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Giuliano Oggioni: If they can only reach only eight and ninth in Serie A - a far weaker league than the Premier League - surely top 10 would be optimistic? Below mid-table.

More from Paul Ince's interview with BBC Radio 5 live.

"In my first Milan derby I was up against Marcel Desailly - a fantastic midfield player. They asked us to do a photo shoot - we had to go face to face and growl at each other, they were going to put it on the billboards in Milan.

"Desailly refused to do it with me - I couldn't understand why. He did it on his own, I did it on my own - standing there growling to myself and he's doing exactly the same.

"On the Friday night before the Sunday, a big massive billboard goes up with me and Desailly growling at each other.

"The game kicks off on the Sunday and first couple of minutes, ball in the middle, 50-50 tackle and I put Desailly on his bum. He looks up at me like he was going to knock me out and I said 'listen, that's for not turning up at the photo shoot the other day'. He laughed."

Brad: , externalBoth Milan teams would finish around 10th in the Premier League. Better than the likes of Villa and West Ham, but not Everton standards.

Matthew R-J:, external AC Milan almost have the perfect Football Manager 2010 team.

  20. How does Serie A stand?published at 19:30 Greenwich Mean Time 23 November 2014

AC Milan are 14 points off leaders Juventus, with Inter a further point off.

Juventus are already three points clear of second-placed Roma, who are themselves six points above Napoli, who occupy the final Champions League place.
