"That Wayne Rooney goal came from a sliding challenge from Radamel Falcao. He looks really sharp today. United worked it brilliantly after that. Very simple, but very good football."

A glimmer of fight from West Brom as they forge their first real chance of the day - Craig Gardner slamming a shot right down the middle and a good save from Joe Hart.

James McCarthy shakes his head. He is not happy. Bojan is not bothered. In the least. The Spaniard slots a low precise spot kick into the corner. Boos around Goodison.

After missing two sitters, Bristol City's Matt Smith makes the breakthrough at Ashton Gate nodding in from Joe Bryan's cross against Yeovil. His side are top of League One as it stands.

Their closest pursuers are MK Dons who have gone ahead away to Notts County through Daniel Powell.

    Robbie Savage
    BBC Final Score

"What West Brom don't need now is to go five or 6-0 down, otherwise the manager is going to get a heap of problems."

  6. PENALTY TO STOKEpublished at 15:36 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2014

Bojan brought down by James McCarthy.

Seconds earlier there was drama at the other end as Leighton Baines was hauled down by Jon Walters about 35 yards out to end a clear(ish) run on goal. Yellow? Red? Ref Lee Mason opts for yellow.

Newcastle lose the ball just outside the area, it's asking for trouble and they get it. Juan Mata takes it on and frees Wayne Rooney inside the box, he gives the keeper the eyes and slots home.

    Kevin Kilbane
    BBC Final Score

"It's not Costel Pantilimon's fault that goal. It's a decent enough strike from Ramirez, but as he's diving to his left, the ball has hit a bobble there and bounced twice as high as he expected."

  9. Postpublished at 15:34 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2014

Good work from Ben Hamer in the Leicester goal as he keeps out a Nacer Chadli effort, the Spurs man making a bit of room for himself and getting a shot away, but Hamer does well to bat the ball to safety.

Spurs should double their lead minutes later as Nabil Bentaleb races clear on goal before a horrible touch allows the Foxes defence to recover and clear.

    David Silva celebratesImage source, Reuters

A walk in the rain for Manchester City. A stroll in the sleet. So, so easy for City as Fernando leads the charge, he finds Jesus Navas, who cuts it back to David Silva. The Spaniard takes a touch and just calm as you like passes the ball into the far corner.

    Gaston Ramirez celebratesImage source, PA

How about this then. Hull have not been in this game at all but are handed a massive slice of luck when Gaston Ramirez's shot bobbles hugely on a cut up pitch and evades the dive of Costel Pantilimon.

  12. CLOSE!published at 15:32 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2014

Close indeed! Kevin Mirallas takes aim from 20 yards, the ball is deflected into the side-netting. Gareth Barry then has a chance from the corner but scuffs his shot wide.

"This Manchester United side will create a host of chances because they have five forwards. For Newcastle, they are good on the break but poor defensively. They need to score the next goal."

Burnley have been the dominant force but Adam Lallana has a rare sighter for Liverpool, his low skidding shot is easy for Tom Heaton in the Clarets goal though.

  15. Football League updatepublished at 15:30 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2014

Derby, with only one win in their last five games in all competitions, double their lead to 2-0 away to Birmingham through Chris Martin's precise free-kick.

Reading lead by the same scoreline, with Glenn Murray getting his and his team's second away to Brighton.

It is still scoreless in the meeting of Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest at the Riverside.

  16. Postpublished at 15:29 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2014

Another tasty foul and Steven Naismith is booked for a hefty challenge on Bojan. The Scot will sit out Everton's next game after racking up five yellow cards.

  17. Postpublished at 15:29 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2014

Crystal Palace have the chance for an equaliser as Yannick Bolasie is fouled in a promising position for a free-kick. Mile Jedinak takes it, but a slight deflection takes off some of the pace and Fraser Forster makes the save with relative ease. Moments later, Joe Ledley smashes one over for the hosts.

  18. Postpublished at 15:29 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2014

After his brace against Crystal Palace, City forward David Silva is having another stormer today. He is everywhere, linking up play and alternating with James Milner at the top of the pitch. City looking comfortable.

Simone in Rotherham: Is there a better left wingback in the world than Ashley Young at the moment? Van Gaal sure knows how to get the best out of him in my opinion.
