The Liverpool annual in 2012 had a bit of trouble with the spelling of one of the team's star players.

The following couple of years of writing press releases about Luis Suarez ensured the press team got plenty of practice in.

  2. "I'm Scooby Doo, Paul Dickov is Yoda"published at 10:53 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2014

"I am one of the most hated footballers in the Premier League, and I am dressed as Scooby Doo.

"I am trying to get into a nightclub with my Blackburn Rovers team-mate Paul Dickov, who is in a Yoda costume. Looking back, it sounds ridiculous."

As we reach the end of the year, media organisations around the world will be churning out pre-recorded reviews of the year to fill airtime and buy a bit of time off.

We are not above that sort of thing.

But, I think spending two and a half minutes reliving Brazil's jaw-dropping 7-1 World Cup semi-final shellacking against Germany is time well spent.

I certainly can't give you anything better....

  7. Boxing Day boost for Man Utdpublished at 10:46 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2014

Manchester United have won 17 of the last 18, been victorious in the last 10 in a row and won the last 10 on Boxing Day at Old Trafford.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have been away from home in nine of their last 11 Boxing Day Premier League matches and have lost six and won just one of those nine games.

More than 70,000 people were admitted to hospital on Christmas day 2012 including people burning themselves on the Christmas pudding and getting a toy from a cracker stuck in their ear.

Harry Arter must have been tempted to drop the gravy down the front of one of his Christmas Day guests.

The Bournemouth midfielder had Fulham anchorman and brother-in-law Scott Parker round for some turkey, a day before they meet on the pitch.

"It's going to be a surreal sort of game for both of us," Arter told BBC Radio Solent.

  11. Balotelli, firestarter, benchwarmer...published at 10:33 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2014

One of the other stories that you might not have seen yet, involves Brendan Rodgers, usually so chipper and cheery about his players, giving Mario Balotelli the cold shoulder.

"Being on the bench is something he will have to get used to," said Rodgers

"If the team needs him from the bench then it is something he will need to become adjusted to - that is the same for every single player, not just him."

Mario often seems happier on the bench anyway.

  12. Boring James Milner?published at 10:29 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2014

Is James Milner a signing to get Liverpool fans excited? Or send them into a state of catatonia?

The Manchester City midfielder has, for a while now, been the subject of a parody Twitter account called Boring James Milner, providing a fictional but purposely mundane account of Milner's life.

Milner has happily poked a bit of fun at it and himself in a video via Manchester City in which he opens his Christmas presents which, predictably, are pretty boring.

It's amusing and certainly worth a watch., external

The Daily Express back page, external screams Rodgers Raid for Milner - linking Liverpool with a move for the Manchester City midfielder in the summer when his contract is up at the Etihad.

Elsewhere the Star and the Times share a backpage lead, focusing on Jose Mourinho's kind words for Sam Allardyce.

Amid the knock-down tinsel and over-priced single pints, your local newsagent is also stocking some thin newspapers this morning.

    You know how it works.

A distant aunt knows you like football. The same distant aunt has to get you a Christmas present. She, understandably, doesn't want to go much over a tenner.

The result can be some unwearable, unwatchable, unreadable football-related gifts.
