Television has just cut to Jose Mourinho's reaction when Diego Costa went down in the area. He thought a penalty had been given and was amazed when he turned round and play was resuming. He wasn't happy.
BBC Sport chief football writer Phil McNulty at Stamford Bridge
"No goals but plenty to debate. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho spread his arms in disbelief when referee Michael Oliver refused to give a penalty when Martin Skrtel seemed to bring down Diego Costa.
"And, on the balance of first-half chances, Liverpool should be ahead after Alberto Moreno and Philippe Coutinho both brought fine saves form Thibaut Courtois. Wide open, entertaining game."
It's been good so far, hasn't it? Here's one to put out there... is the League Cup the only competition which Jose Mourinho wears a tracksuit in? It's just been suggested by one of my colleagues. What do you reckon?

"I'm starting to think there might be some sort of campaign against Chelsea."

"If Philippe Coutinho puts it in the corner, that's a goal. You expect better from Coutinho. Chelsea have had the lion's share of possession so far, but Liverpool have definitely had the better chances."
Philippe Coutinho has four Chelsea defenders in the palm of his hand as he takes them all out with his skill and the goal opens up, but his low shot is somehow cleared by Thibaut Courtois as the big Belgian sticks out a leg. Should score.

"Liverpool are clearly playing on the counter-attack. One threat they do have is the pace of Raheem Sterling. If he can get himself up against John Terry, Chelsea have a big problem. It's almost the Liverpool of old, with Fernando Torres up front."
Mark_Lynch:, external Definite penalty for Chelsea by Skrtel. Then again Costa shouldn't be on the pitch after that dirty challenge.
Matthew Riordan:, external Already looking forward to Jose Mourinho's post match conference.
Shuvam Sinha:, external Alright, Mr Oliver, look, there are two cards in football which can be shown to a player for various levels of offence.

"What a fabulous ball. Steven Gerrard turns and plays it inside Willian, Alberto Moreno takes a bad touch and gives Courtois the chance to get set. He has to drive that first time."
He's still got it! Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard plays an incisive pass which splits the Chelsea defence and plays in Alberto Moreno down the left, but the Spaniard is denied by Thibaut Courtois who spreads himself big.
Mwgoldfix:, external Stone wall penalty.
Ash Williams:, external A second dive by Costa and treading on Can and he should be sent off twice now.

"That's the worst decision, that's shocking. That's a penalty all day long. Michael Oliver has bottled that. He has a perfect view, there is no excuse whatsoever."
This game is full of controversy. Now we've got Diego Costa going over in the area after being tackled by Martin Skrtel. Penalty? Looks like a trip... but no, the referee disagrees. Liverpool survive again.
Jim in Glasgow: If Chelsea players aren't diving they're stamping all over the Liverpool players, should have been a straight red card for Diego Costa.
Adam: There's absolutely no doubt Costa is a great player. Unfortunately there's also absolutely no doubt he has a huge attitude problem.
One goal so far from the four Championship games - and it came very early on with Ben Pringle giving Rotherham a second-minute lead against Bolton.
It is going well for Chester in the Conference - they are 3-0 up against Lincoln, who are down to 10 men,.

"One or two tasty challenges, but what was Lazar Markovic doing there? He just ran into the back of Filipe Luis, and put his arm around his neck almost."
There's a bit of a tangle between Filipe Luis and Lazar Markovic on the halfway line, which ends with the Liverpool man angrily racing towards the Chelsea defender and seemingly raising his arm in the direction of his opponent. The referee lets play go on...
Louise Engelbertsen:, external Might be a great striker, but the dirty antics one minute and the victim-act the next makes it really difficult to like Diego Costa.
Jake Pincombe:, external Only reasons Can got trodden on was because he was trying to disrupt play by kicking the ball away.
Henry:, external If Michael Oliver remembers he has cards in his pocket, we'll see red today. Few ferocious tackles already in this one and tempers high.
Eden Hazard is beginning to click into gear and he skips around a couple of challenges before switching play and bringing Branislav Ivanovic in down the right. The marauding full-back directs his cross straight into the grateful arms of the keeper, though.

"I think Raheem Sterling should do better in that situation. Kurt Zouma had the pace to get back, I don't think Gary Cahill would have been able to make up the ground."
