BBC Sport chief football writer Phil McNulty at Stamford Bridge

"Feisty start here - and Chelsea's Diego Costa exceptionally lucky to get away with a stamp on Liverpool's Emre Can. Liverpool are really pressing Chelsea and the pace of Raheem Sterling already posing a serious threat. This was how Liverpool troubled Chelsea last week and it is up to the Premier League leaders to find the answer."

BBC Radio 5 live commentator John Murray at Stamford Bridge

"Nemanja Matic has started well for Chelsea. The three matches that Chelsea have lost this season, he has missed two of them."

End to end this game, as Oscar has two crosses into the box cleared before Raheem Sterling is denied in the penalty area by Kurt Zouma's outstanding tackle.

Paul Walmsley:, external Diego Costa is a lucky boy. Could've seriously hurt Can there.

Porl Thomas:, external Costa gets away with a red again. Chelsea fans singing just about Gerrard. Mourinho mouthing off to Skrtel. Chelsea rattled.

Dominic O'Caollai:, external That is a red card every day of the week. Absolutely intentional! Watch him go score the winner now.

Diego Costa could cause a row in an empty room. As our Match of the Day commentator Steve Bower puts it, the striker is like a cork in a champagne bottle. He could pop at any time - and he's fizzing right now.

Mo in Manchester: Why is Daniel Sturridge not even on the bench? He may be the miracle we need to win this!

Dan in Leeds: Away goals not counting after 90 mins (when both teams have played the same amount of time away from home) but counting after 120 minutes (when one team has an extra 30 mins to score away goals) is a crazy rule.

We've been asking you what you'd buy Brendan Rodgers and Jose Mourinho for their birthdays...

Obby in Sevenoaks: I would buy Jose a net curtain to hang up and thereby preventing his team's form 'going out the window' twice in one week.

Emre Can collides with Diego Costa and ends up face down in the turf. The Liverpool defender gets up and confronts Diego Costa - and rightly so, as replays show the striker stood on the Liverpool man's ankle. Nasty stuff. Did he know what he was doing? Debatable.

A brief flare-up follows, with Jose Mourinho and Martin Skrtel exchanging words at close proximity. Steven Gerrard comes in to restore order.

BBC Radio 5 live commentator John Murray at Stamford Bridge

"I must say Raheem Sterling looks rather isolated in the early stages."

Brendan will be a wee bit pleased with Liverpool's pressing so far, as Eden Hazard is pushed back into his own half by the midfield terriers that are Lazar Markovic and Jordan Henderson.

Philippe Coutinho shows some lovely skills in the final third as Liverpool flicker into attacking life again but Alberto Moreno's low cross into the box is not up to scratch. Both sides showing plenty of intent.

"This is the problem I have with penalties. By the letter of the law, it's not a penalty, because his arm is in a natural position, but Lucas Leiva is trying to stop the shot going goalwards and he does so with his hand. I think they should simplify the rules and make sure that in future that's a penalty."

I've just seen replays of that Lucas tackle (5 mins) and the ball clearly strikes the Brazilian on the hand in the penalty area after he slides in. The Reds might have got away with one there.

Steven Jones:, external You've missed a game out lads, it's also the Football League Trophy game tonight, the mighty Walsall vs the Preston NE!!

  15. Postpublished at 19:51 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January 2015

We've started at a ferocious pace at the Bridge and Diego Costa gets the better of Mamadou Sakho down the right and lays the ball off to Willian on the edge of the area but Lucas makes a fine tackle to deny the Brazilian a shot at goal.

A Chelsea move breaks down on the edge of the Liverpool box and the Reds break. Raheem Sterling is quickly on the ball down the left flank but again the move breaks down. Both side's intentions are clear.

"Good fast start to the game. I think both teams are keen to make their mark. It's going to take five or ten minutes at least before it settles down into any sort of pattern."

  18. Postpublished at 19:47 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January 2015

Chelsea fans goad Steven Gerrard with some unpleasant chants about slips. The Blues are on the front foot early on - probing away down both flanks without any early opening.

Neil Broughton:, external Big call dropping Gary Cahill tonight. Let's hope Zouma can step up to the plate!

Adam Cornish:, external Like Sir Alex with Man United, it's rare Jose's Chelsea lose two in a row at home.

  20. KICK-OFFpublished at 19:46 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January 2015

Jose and Brendan meet at the mouth of the tunnel and share a joke with the fourth official, Phil Dowd. The footballing equivalent of the pre-boxing bout 'clean fight, lads, touch gloves...'

    We're under way!
