So, let's get down to it and talk about yesterday's top-of-the-table encounter at Stamford Bridge - the 1-1 draw between Chelsea and Manchester City. How to describe it? Anti-climactic? Underwhelming? Dull?

Our man at the Bridge, Phil McNulty, diplomatically called it a "disappointing stalemate".

"Chelsea had the opportunity to open up the sort of gap that would leave the reigning champions with a mountainous task to retain their crown," added Phil. "But a late substitution that saw manager Jose Mourinho replace scorer Remy with defender Gary Cahill illustrated that they were happier with the draw.

"Even the introduction of Frank Lampard, given a largely warm reception as he returned to the club where he is the record goalscorer with 211 in 649 appearances, could not provide a dramatic late twist to a largely uneventful tale."

Too much? Definitely. Today's fixtures may not possess the glamour or potential of yesterday's evening kick-off but there are still plenty of reasons to tune in. Arsenal v Aston Villa may look like a nailed-on home win, but they said the same on the opening day of last season, when Villa came away with a 3-1 win. And the pressure is on Arsenal to take three points or they could be staring at a six-point gap between themselves and the top four at the end of play.

Such an outcome is also dependent on Southampton beating Swansea in the 16:00 GMT kick-off. The Saints weren't meant to be this good this season after selling what many perceived to be their best players. And many critics have been waiting for the bubble to burst. But instead they appear to be getting stronger. A win today will see them go third.

    More on that later...

Well, that was a bit of a let-down. Yesterday, we gave you the big sell on Chelsea v Manchester City. It was the mega-bucks derby, first against second, the match that would define the Premier League season. And what did we get? A disappointing 1-1 draw that didn't even define the weekend, let alone decide the title race.

We've learned our lesson, though, no more hype, no more over-the-top lyrical being waxed, just plain, honest reporting...

Roll up, roll up for the greatest show on Earth! First up this Sunday, the titans of Arsenal clash with the slumbering colossus of Aston Villa in one of the encounters of the century, before the irresistible force meets the immovable object as Southampton take on Swansea in a game that I am certain will define life of everyone fortunate enough to point their eyes in its general direction!
