  1. Get involved - who will miss out on the top four?published at 19:53 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2015

Jamel McFarlane: Man City will miss out because their form is really poor.

Jack Richardson: Arsenal are in good enough shape for second or third now. Liverpool and United will scrap for fourth - with LFC coming out on top.

  2. Red camaraderiepublished at 19:52 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2015

Liverpool's players engaged in several dozen high-fives before going back down the tunnel for their final team talk. They look bang up for this.

Manager Brendan Rodgers said his side's last outing - a goalless FA Cup draw with Blackburn - arrived at the end of a tough run of fixtures but that they are now "refreshed and energised".

We will find out if that is the case in 10 minutes. Liverpool must have looked on in anger as those around them picked up good weekend results. A big night for them you feel.

Swansea fans, need a carrot or spud to make that bowl of Scouse I've just mentioned down in South Wales? I can point you in the direction of an allotment.

The club's old ground, The Vetch Field, is now a park and allotments in the middle of the city and it played host to many a frustrating afternoon for Liverpool fans.

The Reds have three draws in three games at the Liberty Stadium but won just twice in their 10 league visits to the Vetch Field.

If you find yourself in Liverpool and are one of those 'sign me up to local life' types while you're away, then indulge in a bowl of Scouse.

The dish, which it is thought was introduced to the city by sailors, is a bit like a stew, with meat, vegetables and potatoes. It's essentially a dream on a cold winter's day and locals sometimes accompany it with pickled beetroot or bread.

Legend has it the meal turned Jonjo Shelvey from a boy to a man...

  6. Slick under footpublished at 19:42 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2015

It is raining at the Liberty Stadium. Lots of the wet stuff falling which should make for a slick surface, ideal you may think for two sides who tend to want to pass the ball.

Liverpool go through some final shooting drills. Emre Can's hair gel stands up to the elements and not one hair, not one single hair, is out of place. Can has become something of a pin up on Merseyside.

As this new generation of Swansea City fans look on as a man who has led an entire generation of Liverpool fans wanders past, one wonders what must be going through his head.

Rarely has a Premier League player had such a high profile, but would he have ever envisaged bowing out of the game in England as a squad player?

Steven Gerrard is on the bench for Liverpool for the third time this season. Only in 2011-12 was he named as a substitute more times than in the current campaign (six)

Swansea City supporter Abigail Davies,, external a recent contributor to the club's 'Jack to a King' film: "It's easy to forget that this is Garry Monk's first full season in management. He's adapted remarkably well to the position and assembled a strong side with an ability to play in a more versatile manner than we've been accustom to seeing from the Swans since entering the top flight.

"As well as the free-flowing passing movements that have served Swansea City so well in the past, there is now a steely grit about the team that makes them difficult to break down and beat. A far more astute outfit, far less predictable and where under other managers the team has faltered and struggled when allowed little time on the ball to dictate play, they now look to other outlets and means to grind out a result, a feat that I'm sure will help the Swans surpass previous Premier League records."

  10. An average, lovely team?published at 19:28 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2015

Dylan Thomas described Swansea as "an ugly, lovely town," so with the local team mid-table in the Premier League - football's place of relative indifference, one wonders what he would have had to say.

A win tonight would move Swansea from ninth to eighth, but they would still be seven points adrift of seventh-placed Tottenham.

So is this over-achieving, under-achieving or finding their level?

His works have been quoted in television shows and films, including 2014 space epic Interstellar.

In his much-cited work: 'Do not go gentle into that good night', Thomas writes:

Do not go gentle into that good night,

    Old age should burn and rave at close of day;

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Thomas died at the age of 39 in New York. He suffered with alcoholism and his wife Caitlin later wrote: "The bar was our altar".

Brendan Rodgers takes his in-form Liverpool side to the Liberty Stadium, a ground the Northern Irishman knows well after his two years in charge of Swansea.

As you might expect, the match programme is crammed with warm words for Rodgers from Swansea's manager Garry Monk, captain Ashley Williams and chairman Huw Jenkins.

Among Jenkins' usual pleasantries, however, there is a criticism of British football's season structure - Swansea haven't played since losing to Tottenham on 4 March.

"This season has been all stops and starts right from the beginning," Jenkins writes. "I'm not sure the continuous breaks since January for internationals and the FA Cup really helps Premier League teams produce quality football week in, week out."

  13. A map of joy in few placespublished at 19:20 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2015

Across Great Britain's Premier League regions, rarely is peace and inner happiness felt.

On Merseyside, Liverpool may well be that anomaly, that freak team for which the world smells of roses at the moment.

The Reds are unbeaten in 2015, with nine wins and three league draws.

    Swansea City v Liverpool

So impressive is the form that Brendan Rodgers has cultivated, that his side have picked up 31 points from 14 games. They only won 20 from their first 14 league matches.

  14. Poyet departs at Sunderlandpublished at 19:17 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2015

Elsewhere in the Premier League today the big news comes from Sunderland, who have parted company with manager Gus Poyet.

Chairman Ellis Short cited a lack of progress at the Stadium of Light.

The club's former striker Marco Gabbiadini tells BBC Radio 5 live: "It's a difficult time to make a change. He could have maybe got away with it but some of the things Gus has been coming out with have been a bit puzzling lately. It's like he almost talked himself into the sack. I think most people in Sunderland realised he'd possibly be going in the summer but after the performance on Saturday, I don't think the players believed in the manager anymore."

"Not many teams come to Swansea and win. They're already on 40 points. They want to beat their Premier League record of 47. Liverpool will have to be at their best tonight.

"Steven Gerrard is professional enough to appreciate that he's been out for a month and Liverpool have done very well. He can't just walk back into the side in the form that they're in."

Liverpool's erratic form, which at one point had all the ups and downs of a good old episode of Brookside, has been replaced by a steady, rising, polished footballing product.

    Liverpool form chart

The Anfield club are top of the Premier League form table, with five wins and a draw from six games, form which puts them fifth and manager Brendan Rodgers says 74 points will secure a place in the top four.

"We have 30 points to play for so I am guessing it will be another 23 points," said Rodgers, whose side will move back to within two points of fourth-placed Manchester United if they beat Swansea.

    Liverpool and Swansea teamsheet

No one in Liverpool's squad has a "God-given" right to walk into the team according to manager Brendan Rodgers and the clubs' most recent incarnation of a higher being - Steven Gerrard - experiences the full reality of that mantra tonight.

Gerrard is on the bench despite being available for the first time since 10 February after recovering from a hamstring injury.

Swansea City make just one changes as Jordi Amat replaces Federico Fernandez, who has returned home for family reasons.

Swansea City XI: Fabianski, Naughton, Amat, Williams, Taylor, Ki, Cork, Shelvey, Sigurdsson, Routledge, Gomis.

Liverpool XI: Mignolet, Can, Skrtel, Sakho, Allen, Henderson, Lallana, Moreno, Coutinho, Sterling, Sturridge.

No crazy hair, celebrations, tantrums or fireworks from Mario Balotelli this evening. The striker is suffering from an illness and is tucked up with his slippers on back on Merseyside.

What other news will Liverpool's teamsheet drop on us? Their talismanic captain Steven Gerrard (who is perhaps not as talismanic anymore) is fit after a hamstring injury and could feature, while Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho have also recovered from issues.

Bafetimbi Gomis is likely to be back involved with Swansea City tonight 12 days after collapsing on the pitch in their 3-2 defeat at Tottenham.

The club played down the incident, stating they knew Gomis has a long-standing condition, but manager Garry Monk says the striker suffered a bout of dizziness in training since.

"It was not the same situation as in the Spurs game where he fell to the floor, but we had a situation on the training pitch," Monk says.

"Bafe did not pass out but he had a dizzy spell, and we sat him down for five minutes and then he resumed training."
